FML - Do women understand the concept of not second guessing big decisions?

After searching for an apartment for two months, I finally put my name to ink on an apartment, my girlfriend is yet to sign the lease. Today she goes on craigslist and finds the apartment in a building we were looking at a few weeks ago that she wants now.


Apartment 1

520 SQ FT
3rd Floor
Overlooks a courtyar
Has a hottub
Has an amazing common room
In the heart of the city, walk out the door and you're on the water, in the trendy restaurants, wherever you want.
Storage room doubles as a den.

Apartment 2

659 SQ ft
Features a dedicated den as well as a storage room.
has a fireplace
Not necessarily in the best area of town, but because it's up and coming it features cheaper food, cheaper restaurants etc. and is only 10 minutes to downtown. The area is still kind of seedy though.

Both places include parking, have gas appliances, are pretty close to transit, none have extra storage rooms.

Long story short I'm belling to bet my balls that even though my girlfriend hasn't signed the lease the landlord will keep me accountable for that apartment, they also have my security deposit. I am not sure if I have a cooling off period, I signed the lease on Saturday.

Why in the name of god do girls go back and question big decisions?

FML -- last night I got the 'I was dreaming about that apartment last night' routine.

520 square feet for two people? I hope you like your girlfriend cause that is some close quarters. The second one looks much better to me anyway. 3rd floor is bleh.

it's kind of the reality here, high density living.. the rent is still $1350 as it is.

Where's the :jawdrop; emoticon?

Lawdy...I've got at least 650 square feet for $450/month + utilities. On top of that, there's lots of storage space upstairs; it's kind of like a finished attic, so there's a bit of a crawlspace behind one of the walls.

I assume this is a city, or high-density sort of apartment you've got?

Yeah, my girlfriend is from St. Louis, so she's used to low cost living.

Both of these apartments are less than two years old and both have granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, gas everything etc.

And yes it's nuts but that's just how it is up here.
 
520 sq ft and $1350 rent per month? Yike. My apartment is 750 sq ft and not even 1/2 of your rent.

Ah. Definitely higher-class than what I'm living in. 😉

The only stainless steel stuff here is cookware and flatware.
Granite? Um, the driveway has lots of stones, that's as close as you'll get. 🙂

The only stainless steel stuff here is cookware and flatware.

My girlfriend and I are both very big cooks so having supreme cookingwares are very important.

As well, the margin between a decent place and a nice place is usually less than $350 dollars so it's kinda worth it.

The microwave is my friend, and my cookware was mostly bought because it was on a clearance sale.

If my gf ever tried switching up AFTER I had signed a lease I would take it as a sign she wasn't really into the relationship, or as yet another sign that she might have a cognitive disability (in addition to the previous signs: She has a uterus, two ovaries, a vagina, and 2 breasts capable of producing milk)

She's the smartest girl I've ever met.

I can't draw the connection between pre-move in jitters and her being an idiot. It's the first time either of us have moved in with an SO and I think she just wants what she thinks is the best for both of us.
 
520 square feet? Holy shit. My garage alone is twice that size.

How the hell can 2 people live in 520 square feet?
 
make her pay for the penalties and be done with it.
if she think it's worth the penalties, then let her deal with it.
 
You said the second apt is in a "seedy" area. Then tell her she/you might not feel safe around the neighborhood.
Maybe find out the crime rate and show her.

She will bitch about it but you need to convince her why the 1st one is good and the 2nd one is bad.
Losing that security deposit might also be a good argument against the 2nd place too.
 
I was gonna say show her a bunch of creeps on meganslaw.com that live around the second place, might make her change her mind. Then I realized your a Canuck 🙁

It's an up and coming area........ lots of redevelopment.
