FM2+ Athlons??

Could some one please tell me when the FM2+ Athlons are coming out??
Soon I am hoping!! I am looking to get one probably the 770K or 870K or what ever they are calling it this time around. I had a 750K and 760K and they are darn good CPU's for the price. Any Spec info would be great to.. Thank much all..
 
It's not a process change, so don't expect much. The previous ones were already pushing it for the silicon. It will be an Intel-esque 100mhz bump or something most likely, with IPC basically unaffected for common use.

They will be outstanding value just like the previous ones though.

Remember that the previous ones where piledriver, this time they will be steamroller.
Personally it would be nice if we could get a 6-core athlon, of FX for FM2+.

You are mistaken. It's both process change and uarchitecture change. New Athlons will be SR based (so ~10% better IPC on average) and will be done on 28nm bulk node. Hopefully we will see similar OCs with lower power and temp levels.

I am hoping for a 10-15% boost with the new Athlons Vs. Current Gen.
I love my 760K but wish it had just a tad more Umph when it comes to video encoding/photo shop ect.., but what do you expect for $80 bucks right??
 
Just compare a 6800K with a 7850K and you know how it perform.

Its still to be seen if there will actually be any Athlons.

Not sure but lets hope not cause that would suck big time..
I know with my 760K I am able to hit 5.0GHz @ 1.475v stable for 24/7 use and was hoping to get the same or slightly better with the next get Athlons.
I thought I heard some where that there was going to be like a 20% boost in IPC on the new FM2+ parts?? wouldnt that alone make up for the 10-15% boost clock for clock that I am looking for??

Its more like 10% in average. The info you seek is already there. 6800K vs 7850K clock for clock.

Dont expect SR cores to clock higher.

But again, there may never be Athlons. Just IGP enabled Kaveris.

The GPU is roughly half the die on Kaveri, and it's a pretty big die; I'm sure there must be quite a lot of dies with GPU defects and functional CPUs. I'd expect there to be Athlons released so that they can shift those dies. [/speculation]

They already sell Kaveris with disabled CUs(384 instead of 512). So the question would be, how many chips got the entire GPU part dead and still a working CPU part. We just have to look at Intel to compare.

IGP less chips for endusers are just really dead.

AMD also seem to wish to sell AM1 Kabini chips in the low end instead of FMx Athlons.

They're certainly not something you would create a separate die for, but they can still be useful for harvesting damaged products. I guess it depends on how good GlobalFoundries' yields are.
 
Yup waiting for an Athlon FM2+ for my FM2+ system as well.

In some benchmarks around the internet, the 7850K beats the FX 4350 (what I also have), so if there's going to be Athlon versions of those APU's then that'd be a great buy.

I wish AMD would get out of its glut of doing low-end parts, and sadly, that isn't going to change anytime soon.

I mean that AMD's entire line is considered low end compared to intel equivalent in IPC, without o/cing and ramping up the voltage/power requirements, so, it doesn't seem like there will be much of a speed increase over the older models to make it worth it to 'upgrade'.
 
Oh damn, did you guys see that intel is releasing a unlocked pentium for right around $100 bucks..
I wonder how it will compare to say the AMD 760K??
I mean I already have the 760K but wouldnt mind ditching it for a pentium if the pentium is faster and stronger then the 760K by at leased 15-20% clock for clock.

Unlocked Pentium with only 2 cores and SMT disabled? Good luck beating stock 740(non K) with that in majority of modern workloads.

Yeah but it could have HT which would make it a direct competitor to the 760K.

Quick Cinebench 11.5 comparison shows that stock (locked) Haswell Pentiums are doing just fine. X4 740/750K is only 5-10% faster than similarly priced Pentium ($70 and $75 @ Amazon) in this MT benchie, not a very significant difference considering its a dual-core without HT vs 2M/4C chip. Depending on pricing a +4GHz capable (unlocked) Haswell Pentium could be a great chip. Oh, and lets not forget they would beat any other <$200 chip (including Intel's locked i3s) in anything that doesnt scale beyond 2 threads once OCed.

You're spot on with that last point. Both Intel and AMD are looking to replace the bottom end of their 'performance' desktop SKUs with the leftovers from their Atom and Cat lines. Can only identify, disable, and test the defective GPU and CPU units on the larger die product lines so much before it's not worth the effort at the price you can sell them for.

May not see a GPU-less AMD desktop SKU any more.

No Hyperthreading, no AVX, no AVX2. YAWN.

A non-crippled unlocked dual core would be fun- an i3-K. But the Pentium isn't doing it for me.
