FM "approves" 60.72 for 3dm

Update April 14th, 2004: Futuremark has reviewed the ForceWare 60.72 drivers for the launch of the GeForce 6800 Series graphics cards at NVIDIA's specific request. We found that the 60.72 drivers used with the GeForce 6800 Series fulfill the optimization guidelines for 3DMark03 Build 340. Please note that the ForceWare 60.72 drivers are approved only for the GeForce 6800 Series graphics cards, and any future approved WHQL drivers will replace the 60.72 non-WHQL drivers.
 
duh, the can't run old drivers that don't support the 6800 model. Then the card wouldn't work
 
Yay, they approved drivers for a card that isn't even available for another month and a half.

The drivers have the same boost in score over the 52.16 drivers as all the rest of them on 59xx cards. Thats pretty fishy.

Nobody ever said the drivers weren't still unapproved with any NV30 or 35.

What this means, VIAN, is that FM approved the drivers. Which means there were no Optimizations "cheating" to attain such high scores. The 12000 plus mark is legit.

 
screw dets, i want new nforce drivers so i dont have to install all these little beta updates to my audio and crap. where are the nforce 4.0 drivers that they used in the nforce 250 review a month ago?

I think nvidia wanted to be one step ahead of all the people who "would" accuse them of cheating. So they were just probably playing it
smart and it appears they have learned a lot from the NV3x problems.

smart and it appears they have learned a lot from the NV3x problems.

But then according to those who were reviewing the cards, the NV30 and 35 series card still do have the optimizations in, but its good that the NV40 does not

True but since AFAIK the 52.16s don't run on the 6800U we can't yet establish whether the 6800U is cheating. Maybe the drivers don't activate their dubious optimizations on the NV40 core.

Only time will tell I guess.

Well, it would seem that we do not have to establish whether the 6800U is cheating with the 60.72's because FM has done that for us.
If they disected it at nvidia's request and then approved it, that should be good enough for anyone.

 
If the Nv40 is getting messed up shaders in Far cry then I would assume it would also use the cheating pathway in any older NV drivers that contain them, but that seems to me to be completely irrelevent as the new drivers set for the NV40 isn't cheating at all
 
I think the most important point here is that the 6800U simply doesn't need to cheat because it has blazing performance. It even crunches through the HDR tests that the NV3x had extreme trouble with.
