His profile shows him from NC....

If he wasn't from the US, wouldn't he need a passport, no matter what state he was going to?

I don't know why everyone here has to be so high and mighty and full of glib answers.

Everyone knows you only need a passport to drive to Hawaii. Flying only requires a valid picture ID.

I swear, you people! ;)

would have been better if you'd left that un-bolded and un-italicized. people who get sarcasm dont need huge signs pointing out the sarcastic part.

And they only take shells as payment (no cc or paypal). PM me today and I'll give you 20 shells for $100. That's right, a 17% savings! And don't listen to TheGizmo, he's a total scammer (you only get live shells if you pay out the ass for overnight shipping).

Oh my, how sad this thread is. Do they not teach anything anymore in schools?

BTW, the flight should be about 8.5-9 hours from Cali to Hawaii. At least mine was both ways. I just got back from Australia last Friday, and had to stop in Hawaii for fuel.

Oh the misconceptions are so deep here today...If you want to drive to Hawaii on MY bridge...you'd better bring lots of cash as well as your passport...The Genie who built if for me promised I'd get rich off of this sucker, and I am NOT gonna let anyone go cheaply...especially someone from NC who doesn't realize that Hawaii is a foreign country...

Actually, I think it's understandable to wonder if a passport is needed, since Hawaii isn't connected to the 48 contiguous states. For what it's worth, you WILL need a passport to drive to Alaska in the near future; or at least if you plan on driving from Alaska back to the contiguous 48 states.

Friggin national security joke - it used to be easy to go to Niagara Falls, Ontario with the family and see the falls and tourist attractions (Canada side is far nicer.) Pretty soon, you'll need passports for the family to go there, because we all know that the terrorists will become completely stymied at the thought of a 4000 mile unguarded border and having to cross at one of only a few dozen roads guarded roads.

oh, and his question makes sense in the context that you leave the US entirely during your flight - you're over international waters.

On top of that, there are special restrictions flying into Hawaii than to any other state. (Agricultural)

I don't see why everyone found his question to be *that* stupid. A little naive, perhaps, but not entirely out of the ball park of reasonable questions.

It's unfortunate that tone can't be conveyed through typed words. But, I'll bet by "Hawaii is one of the 50 states right?" he meant:

"Okay, so like Hawaii is one of the 50 states..."
rather than
"Hey, is Hawaii one of the 50 states?"

I guess I can understand the mob mentality though.
