Flying standby with Delta...HELP!

I just took some vacation time so that I can go to visit my sister in San Diego. It's 2:15AM now and I need to be at the Atlanta, GA airport by 6:00AM for my departing flight. I already paid my friend for a buddy-pass stand-by ticket. I was on the phone with him while he was at work entering the information into the system for my ticket. He was about to read the confirmation number to me and ran into some difficulty, then said that he would call me back. I've been in contact with him since, but I did not get the confirmation number because he was not at work. When I was on the phone with him before, I gave him my email address (hotmail) and he entered it into the system with the rest of my personal information. I tried to call him in desperation at 11:30PM to remind him that I had no confirmation number, but he didn't answer his phone. This is no suprise because he's getting married in the morning, so I would not be suprised if I cannot contact him. at all until it is too late. I want to check my email, but Hotmail is not working for me.

My brother's Hotmail account is working, so there must be something wrong with mine. I've already contacted Hotmail, but I have not received a response. I've tried several numbers for Delta and the line goes silent with no Hold music and noone ever picks up.

Is there *ANY* way that I can get my confirmation number using my personal information and proof of identity?

I would say call Delta airlines. I'm not a Delta employee, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night :thumbsup:.

Tried it. There is no appropriate number on the web site. I've tried calling some of the other numbers that aren't really for my situation, and I can't reach a person. The phone system was engineered to weed out people like me so that they don't have to deal with my problem.

Show up at the airport, and go to the Delta counter. If you give them flight details and your ID, they can pull up your flight confirmation.

No, I'm not an employee, but I fly a lot and this would usually work. Tell me again, exactly which city are you in right now?

It should be fine to just walk up to the Delta counter and ask for your confirmation number (and show ID).

I've done this plenty of times in the last year (I dont even bother looking at confirmation numbers anymore) with various airlines.

If your flying standby leave as soon as you can. The later you leave the less chance you get at getting a seat.

THen you're all good. The South terminal is all Delta and there's sure to be a bunch of Delta counters open.

I called the number and reached a call center in India. I provided my phone number, name, flight number, departure/destination cities and she was not able to find me listed as a passenger on the flight. Is this to be expected when I'm flying "standby"?

Yes, because you don't have a confirmed spot on the flight.

Well, it's possible that the problem my friend encountered resulted in me not having a ticket at all. I wish there was some way to know before I make the trip!

ATL is 30-45 minutes away from Newman right (iirc)? Just up and get in your car and drive to the airport!

edit: since you're flying standby, make sure you have no check-in baggage. take whatever fits in one backpack, leave the rest.

With no confirmation number or anything he walked up to an assistance counter, mentioned that he was the recipient of a buddy pass (from a Delta-afilliated ASA mechanic), stated the destination and departure time and showed his ID. BAM! He was on his way.

Flight 1017 Atlanta to San Diego landed safe and sound. I got ZERO sleep after last night's "problem" and having to help my brother pack as well as drive him to the airport. I somehow managed to navigate thirty miles back home while hopped up on caffine.

My brother has visited twice already without me. I have not been to San Diego since I visited in '94, which is also the last time I ever flew in an airplane. Before that I had only flown to the Virgin Islands when I was 3 and back after I turned 4. I don't think I have any
