Eh, Im always like this for big events, although this is a little worse. during the night I tried that "concious breathing" thing, where you concentrate on only breathing, it seemed to work and let me get back to sleep for another hour or two.

Im 19, so I suppose I could take something 🙂 About flying safer than driving, that may be true, but I think the chance of walking away from a car crash is a lot greater than that of a plane crash 🙁

Doesn't matter. The odds of dying in a car wreck are still FAR greater. You're more likely to get hit by lightning, or hit by a car while walking down a sidewalk, than to crash in a plane.

great, now he's gonna worry about rogue lightning bolts on his way to the airport.

Ah yes, the fear of flying. Makes me think of those 'Airplane' movies where the in flight movie for the passengers
were showing the slow motion crash pictures of what goes wrong in an aircraft accident.

You have as good a chance of winning the Lotto as you do of being involved in a plane crash.
Maybe a better chance of winning the Lotto.

Hey, nothing will happen.

And when you fly over the Florida Keys, those little dots are not terrorists aiming their shoulder-fired missiles at you...

Flying is nothing

You will want to take some gum with you for your ears (Helps in the popping)

Step by step for takeoff:

Get on plane and sit and wait for it to taxi away from the gate. When it starts taxing, it will roll not real fast (Like 10-20 mph tops) to the runway. After waiting in a line of planes to take off, your plane will roll onto the end of the runway and stop. Sometimes the pilot has to wait before getting clearance, othertimes he already has it, that will determine the length of time stopped at the end of the runway. Once clearance is given to take off, your plane will throttle up (You will know when that happens) and start to roll. It will very quickly accelerate to the takeoff speed needed (Almost always above 150mph for big jets). You will feel yourself getting pulled back in your seat, that is called gforces 🙂 When the plane lifts off, it will go up at around a 20-30 degree climb, raising it's landing gear almost as soon as it leaves the ground (You should hear it and maybe feel it). The takeoff is a little bumpy sometimes as you climb through the wind's of the lower atmosphere, but once you get up to cruising altitude it should get a little smoother.... The pilot will let you know if bumpy weather is ahead. Enjoy the cruise at 30,000+ feet at over 300mph 🙂

On landing it is also bumpy, exspecially when the landing gear hits the runway, it sometimes feels the plane skips sideways, which it may bounce on the first touchdown, but it the pilot is any good, he/she will sit it down gently. You will hear the flaps etc... working shortly before you land as well as the gear coming down, and when you do sit down the pilot will put on the reverse thrusters. That is when the thrust going out the back of te engine is redirected to point forward of the aircrasft, hence creating an airbrake or sorts.

I have flown several times from east coast to west coast of the U.S as well as from Florida to Michigan, and from Florida to Hawaii.....

I do suggest you get a window seat so you can watch the ground under you go by. It doesn't zip by like you might think, because of your altitude you should be able to see great distances...

Relax, pop a stick of gum in your mouth and enjoy the ride! 🙂 Great experience!

IAght. Im heading out 🙁 I took some various pills, and will take some more before takeoff. In about 5 hours 🙁 Gawd... this is gonna suck. I'll post an update on how it went if I find some interent access down there, or when I get back. Bye!

Flying is safer than driving.

Actually that's a mistatement. Statistically, there have been more deaths involved in automobile accidents, however, driving is safer. More can go wrong with an airplane but due to regulations airplanes are highly maintained and checked. If we had the same regulations for the drivers and everytime we got into a car, there would be almost no accidents with vehicles (most would be from natural occurences like weather or deer).

Don't scream "I'm a terrorist" on the plane

Bah, other than landing and take-off you have nothing to worry about. Your ears will start to hurt/pop (to some people) but other than that its kinda cool

Phew, am I glad to be home. The Dominican was fun and all but Im very happy to be back here ( and on the ground.)

As for the flying, once I got to the airport I calmed down and everything was fine. I was suprised how easy the landing was, once second I was looking down at some village buildings a good distance up and the next instant we touched down, I was impressed.
Todays flight home however didn't go as smooth. I was a little woozy for the first hour, then sick for the next 2 ( I had the barf bag out and ready, but luckily I kept it down ) The last hour we passed over land, Washington DC / Philly area so that past quickly as I looked down on the SimCity-esk view. Neat stuff. The plane was very uncomfortable though, and now I'm off to check out the rest of my stuff to check!
