I'm leaving next Saturday for vacation, and I'm going to Nice, France, first, but on the 4th, I'll be flying out of Heathrow. Do you guys think by then it'll be okay to bring aboard my iPod? I can't imagine 8 hours doing nothing :(. Obviously I understand the restrictions and why they're happening, but I'm just curious if the iPod ban will be lifted by then.

Currently UK is banning almost all carry ons, they are only permitting a small clear plastic bag worth of stuff (medication, keys without electric fobs, glasses, wallets), no electronics AT ALL and no liquids. Personally I think this new policy is complete bs considering you can't lock your bags and they aren't liable for valuables in checked luggage (lost luggage liability for international flights is only around $500 or so and you need to submit reciepts to claim it, plus it takes months before they will process it).

Personally, if I were you, I would call the airline and try to get the flight rerouted through a different country.

Sonofabitch. I'm kind of reluctant to even bring my iPod + headphones at all now. Having $900 worth of portable music in a suitcase thats being checked makes me very nervous.

What about your camera?

You should be nervous. I think the stats are something like 2% of checked bags disappear. Considering how many thousands of bags go through the airport everyday to hundreds of different destinations, thats probably not bad.

If you are truly paranoid, you could ship them home. Just make sure you insure it and have reciepts at home to prove that you didn't buy it abroad or you could be hit by import duties.

I do not think the iPod will be allowed on. I suggest a good book (those aren't banned yet, are they?) or a couple of magazines.

If it's an ipod nano perhaps you could put it in a condom and swallow it....

Fvck, I forgot about my camera. It's not even a small one, I've got a D70. If I ship it home, that's gonna be hella expensive :(.

you won't be able to bring your iPod. one of the terrorist plots that was found had planned on using an iPod as a case for a remote detonator.

What do you mean 8 hours doing nothing? They play movies and TV shows the whole time, they usually have about 10 different music channels, and I've been on planes that even had XM radio. Read a book or a magazine!

Ehh, I suppose. If they don't let me bring my headphone adaptor on the plane so I can use my real earphones, I'll def. kill myself :p.

Yeah, pretty much everything is. According to Heathrows website, it's only for this weekend. Lets hope that's true.

I'm saying it's ridiculus to have people check their valuables and not take responsibility for it.

Personally I think it's kind of silly that people are showing such a knee-jerk reaction and all the fears of flying due to the "terrorist threat", you are far more likely to die in a car accident or in your bathtub.
