So tomorrow I'm flying for the first time, and by myself at that. Anything I should know? How early should I get there? What rules should I know for carry-ons, etc? I picked an aisle seat....good?

Get there at least two hours before your flight. Pack as light as possible, no checked baggage if it's possible. Aisle is good, I prefer window b/c I love flying and looking at the scenery, but you have eaiser access to the bathroom.

If your flight takes off at 3, be at the in the terminal ~1:30 at the latest (first time anyway)
Try to avoid wearing anything metal...I always leave my belt off and avoid any rings/ect

Oh, and don't swallow more than 1 or 2 condoms full of cocaine

Aisle seat = bad unless you have a weak bladder or fear of looking out of the window. Aisle means whoever sits between you and the window has to crawl over your lap every time they need to sit down or get up. Window seat is the only one with a view.

But otherwise, if you can, pack it all into carry-on, no check means no loss, no wait. I think 2 hours early is recommended now, you can call airlines and get more specific info.

Don't bring scissors, nail clippers, or any aerosol cans etc. Visit the check-in table for your carrier first, then hang out by the gate. Feel free to use cd players, game boys, etc when permitted, and feel free to call the stewards/stewardesses if you need a blanket, pillow, food etc.

If its a domestic flight, and your not checking in any luggage you could get their ~30-40 minutes ahead, no prob. also make sure you call the day of your flight to check if your flight is running as scheduled. If you are checking in luggage get there 1.5 hours ahead and you should be fine. The times are a little much but I like to be safe just incase there are huge lines and such.

The aisle seat you have could be either a good thing or a bad thing, for example:
Good thing when you have to pee alot while the other people in the aisle dont
Bad thing when you dont have to pee often while the other people in the aisle do

redly, one or two is ok? damn...I already have 5 in me. Guess I'll be going bullemic tonight...

As for the aisle, I'd rather be crawled over than crawl over other people. I guess I'd rather be annoyed than be annoying.

For carry-ons, how much can you take with you? I was planning on packing a backpack and a gym bag...could I bring both of them?

My advice is to get a good running start. If you can find a sloping hill all the better. A slight wind blowing into will definatly help. Once you reach top speed begin flapping your arms as hard as you can. Once you start lifting off try to stay in a superman position using the updrafts to your advantage. I perfer to wear goggles to to keep the bugs out of my eyes and a bike helment... just in case. You never know after all, flight is never a sure thing.

yes for domestic flights I you are allowed 2 carryons, one that can go in the top bins and one you put under the seat in front of you

My flight has one transfer...its the same airline but a different flight. Is this generally a painless procedure?

Very, just tell the flight agents at check-in and they'll give you a new bording pass.

Oh, BTW, if you *REALLY* want to have fun, try the following prank. All you need is 1 can of chicken soup.

Right after takeoff, tell the flight agent that you are fealing sick, and ask for a barf bag. Empty the can into the barf bag. Pretend to throw up very harshly into the bag while running down the aisle towards the bathroom. The goal is to draw as much attention to yourself as possible and *NOT* make it to the bathroom. After the deed is done, proceed back to your seat, but start eating your 'puke' and pretend to enjoy it :)

When a man tried this on AU air, it made a lot of people sick just watching him, and the ensuing chaos earned him a lifetime ban from their airline

If you can check in online (you can do this up to 36 hours before your flight with Northwest, and print a boarding pass right from your computer) do it. It'll probably save some time.

Get there like an hour early. Anymore is just overkill. (unless its peak travel season or international - which its not). You dont have to check in any of your bags (both carryon). As someone said, you will put the gym bag up top and you can keep your backpack in front of you. Aisle isnt that bad bc you can stretch out more, though Im sure you would appreciate the view. If you wanted though, once you have boarded the plane, you can offer to switch seats with someone. Im sure there are people that would rather sit aisle than window, and there are no rules against swapping. Oh also, you can talk to the agent at the desk and ask to change seats too.

Remember, flying is safer than driving! If you encounter any turbulence dont be scared. Up in the air, the littlest bounce will feel like a lot. But just think of being in a car, if you hit a bump or pothole you get pushed all around too, but you arent worried about crashing! Its the same with flying, just the feeling is foreign.
