I don't think the FluMist intranasal live virus vaccination actually vaccinates or immunizes the recipient in any way.

My coworkers received the FluMist nose spray while I was accomplishing other duties and not able to be present. When I returned to the work center a few days later, they were all sick with flu-like symptoms, which then infected me. Within another day or so, I also began experiencing flu like symptoms. Within a week, everyone in the work center, including myself, was clear of flu symptoms. Then the results for the mass vaccination came out and showed that I had not received the FluMist, and I was ordered to get the nose spray asap. I went to the immunizations clinic and got the nose spray. 2 days later, I began experiencing identical flu like symptoms to what I had earlier.

If I was infected with the same live flu virus that my coworkers received in the previous week, and then fought off, shouldn't I have an immunity to the same flu virus distributed in the FluMist sprays?

In either case, the FluMist spray wreaks havoc with allergies, sinuses, and typically causes cases of the flu to spike while they are giving out the vaccination.

Ironically, I only rarely got the flu. After I enlisted and started being forced to get the flu vaccine, I started getting the flu regularly every time I get the vaccination. The needle type shot never bothered me that much though, the symptoms of it were usually very mild and only last a day or so. The damned FluMist vaccination jacks up my nose, in addition to the other symptoms and side effects, for a week or longer.

There are some up sides to it though. 1) This is the last time I'll likely ever have to get the FluMist again, and 2) One of the symptoms of the FluMist is irritability, I can be jerk and have a legitimate excuse.
 
FWIW, I've never had a flu shot and yet, I havn't had the flu in close to 10 years. It's a conspiracy maaannnnn
 
The one and only time I got a flu shot, I ended up with the flu. Therefore, I no longer get a flu shot.

Wash your hands.
 
I have never had a flu shot, and never have had the flu.

I may have had the flu, but if so, it just affected me like a normal cold.
 
Its Ironic that the very thing that is protecting us from the Flu, is the flu virus itself.

There are people who get sick from flu vaccines because 1: The virus wasn't weak enough or 2: Immune system just sucks. But I still ge tmine every year. I have never gotten sick from one.

On a side note, don't stay next to people. The cold causes the flu virus to be able to float though the air and into your body. APparently, if its warming than about..70-80 degrees the flu virus has a hard time spreading. But colder than that, if you get onto a bus with one person with the flu and its cold, youll get sick

Thats not irony. Irony is like rain on your wedding day, or a free ride when you've already paid.

This is just helping the human body develop immunities.
 
It's practically impossible to get the flu from the shot and highly unlikely from the nasal mist. You're just more susceptible to other infections after vaccination.
 
dunno, they require us to have flu shots. i got the flumist before i came here, other than my first year entering(03) i had never gotten a flue shot, and never felt sick from any flu like symptoms.

I'm with you. I got the flu last year and it was the first time I've had it in 13 years. I've never had a flu shot...

Edit: And btw, in the 13 years since I'd last had the flu I'd forgotten how much in sucked. For the record... Fuck the Flu
 
I don't think I've ever had a flu shot in my life. What's the point? Isn't there like a bazillion strains of flu?
 
I have to get the mist at work. From my understanding, the mist is a lot stronger than the shot, and gives better immunity to the flu.

No, it isn't any better, it's stronger b/c it has to be ; it isn't injected directly into your bloodstream like the vaccine, so a stronger live virus of it has to be administered in your nose.
 
For most people they can have some reasonable excuse to not get the flu vaccine, but really when you get a flu shot you not only protect yourself but others.

Personally in my job I think the flu shot should be mandatory. (I'm an ER nurse)

I've always gotten my flu shot since I was 18. And in my years in college when the flu would ravage the dorms like wild fire I was the one that was like, yea I'm not sick how bout you?

Yes. They have to try and guess which strains are going to be prominent that year.

It's kinda silly really, although it must help at least some people...
 
Never had a flu shot, because if I got one I'd probably get sick instantly from being a couch potato now 🙁
 
For all the people that say 'I get flu shots but then get the flu' that's what's SUPPOSED to happen... to a point. All the flu vac is is a small dose of the flu in question. It's supposed to be small enough to get you mild symptoms but let your body fight it off in order to become immune. The full blown flu is absolutely awful, and I don't know anybody who got it who wasn't forced bedridden for a few days. If you were able to get to work/school then you didn't have the flu as bad as you could have and the vacs worked to a point, or it was still your body fighting it off in the first place.

That being said, I've never had a flu shot and don't plan on ever getting one.
