Ok, whoever has a green thumb I need suggestions. I want to plant some flowers in planters on my balcony but the problem is that it will be shady until late afternoon. Anyone have suggestions as to what I can plant? I also live in Birmingham, AL so they will need to be pretty resilient to hot weather.

Just go to lowes/home depot or a garden shop and look for flowers that want partial shade or just ask for help. You have to try really hard to kill a plant.

IMO, a better choice would be a local nursery. Lowes/Home Depot garden employees aren't usually the sharpest knives in the drawer...

yeah, very true. A nursery generally has very knowledgeable people who are more than willing to help.
