Florida shooter had a million dollar inheritance.

Actually I kinda feel sorry for the guy, sounds like he had a bad life, losing his mother at such a young age and he clearly had some mental issues, not that it excuses what he did though. He should have seeked help. He pretty much ruined his life at this point, if he does not get death penalty he'll be in jail for life, which is worse than death penalty.

That's always kinda confused me. Death sentence is the 'premium' penalty, but I'd rather have that than life in jail. Fuck that. Shitty prison food every day, get to go outside an hour a day; maybe, shitty neighbors... I'd much rather get death.

Agreed. I usually believe the death penalty should be reserved for unquestionably guilty people, but that everyone in prison should be given the option to be executed if they so desire.
 
This is why you should never leave an inheritance for your children. If I had been simply left in an orphanage when my parents died and given nothing I would probably be president by now. It is only people who are given things in life who fail to achieve.


The whole concept of inheritance should be removed from US law and the state should confiscate everything when you die. This would solve the problems of the current burgeoning aristocracy and the expanding inequality between the rich and poor. It would also solve the housing crisis.

He probably would had pissed the money away anyway. Hell, I would had probably pissed the money away. That's a lot of money for a 21 year old, and when you don't have an older person to guide you that amount of money can be an issue.

Reminds me of a kid that I knew in HS. His parents are loaded. If he wanted a $3k electric guitar he got it. New BMW? Got it. He has never had a job in his life. Even in his late 30s. has never had responsibilities. He wanted to spend $30k on a bedroom that he was setting up for one of his kids. His dad cut him off from that idea. The last I heard he was spending money on so much crap. If he doesn't go broke in 10 years it won't be suprising.

Except you'll be on death row for years and have plenty of chances to decide if you want to kill or get yourself killed in that time. I think I'd rather die by bleeding out from getting shanked than strapped to a cold table in a bright room with a crowd watching the IV be put in.

Reminds me of the Ted Bundy movie when the prison guards were stuffing cotton up his arse. Then, when they strapped him in the chair with everyone watching. He deserved it though. I'm not sad.

Need to leave enough money that if I die what happens to my family doesn't change. That is, I want them to be able to afford the mortgage and education even if I die.

Humans are good at adapting and overcoming. That shitty jail food isn't all bad you start to look forward to the good meals and commissary. I actually learned to like a couple things in jail that I had never eaten before. Oddly enough grits just aren't the same out in the real world. That time outside is that much more enjoyable because you don't get a lot of it, jail people ain't that bad, they're generally funny and have lots of good stories the ones that are bad you can look forward to punching in the mouth for some extra entertainment. Then you have almost no responsibilities, you work a job if you want to pass the time, otherwise just chill out, watch tv, play cards, read books, workout. Hell a few weeks in jail is sort of a vacation. The only absolutely terrible thing is no chicks.
 
What a dummy. At 22 he would have been set for life if he played his cards right. All those people who made him angry enough to kill would be jealous of him and thats the best revenge.

No way is the death penalty better than life in prison for me, unless you get to pick the time and manner of death. Knowing someone will kill you in a few days must be nerve racking, but Life in prison means a life of free food, reading, free education, exercising and planning how to escape.

I can get behind planning to escape, but modern controls make it exceedingly difficult. That's like planning your retirement around lottery tickets.

Yeah if your this kid that killed a bunch of innocent kids yeah it'd be something to worry about. Thankfully I'm not the kind of criminal that gets the extra scrutiny from the rest of the inmates.

This is a terrible idea. This is the kind of flawed deductive reasoning only a person living off of a huge inheritance would write.

Well in most states the death penalty is effectively life in jail but you are kept basically in isolated confinement which is literally a form of torture.

I don't know about executed but I do find it hilarious that they will go to extraordinary lengths to ensure that even death row inmates scheduled to be executed the next day. They evidently want to make some poor schmuck kill him really bad. Anyone on death row or in jail for a considerable amount of time should not only be allowed to kill themselves but be given the means to relatively easily do so. Maybe some sort of mandatory waiting period to make sure they are really serious but we damn sure shouldn't be committing extra resources to ensure people, especially people the state intends to execute themselves, don't kill themselves.

CARSON CITY, Nev. – A death row inmate scheduled to become the first executed in Nevada in 11 years was placed on suicide watch for several days because he said he'll kill himself if the state won't do it.

Nevada Department of Corrections spokeswoman Brooke Keast says Scott Dozier was placed on suicide watch as a protective measure on Thursday because he told prison staff he would "kill himself if the execution didn't take place." She said Tuesday he was removed from suicide watch on Monday.

Dozier was scheduled to die Tuesday at the Ely State Prison but the execution was postponed after a judge in Las Vegas ordered a paralytic drug removed from a never-before-used lethal injection plan.

The state is appealing. Clark County District Judge Jennifer Togliatti set a Dec. 7 date to check the status of the case

Brandon Rhode, a Georgia death row inmate, who was scheduled for execution on September 21, received a temporary stay after he attempted to commit suicide. The Georgia Supreme Court granted a stay until September 24 to allow Rhode access to counsel after he was taken to the hospital on the day of his scheduled execution.

It has nothing to do with him. It's a transparent attempt by his defense team to avoid the death penalty by making him appear contrite (which, from what I've seen, he is not). He would not see a penny of that money regardless, and not just because he's behind bars for the rest of his life. He has been or will be sued by the families of the victims and they would take every penny of that inheritance anyway. So they make it look like some kind gesture that he is giving up his inheritance that he was never going to see anyway.

That is a very good point and you are probably right, just strategy from his lawyer.
 
I noticed in the short vid that along with the other items the FBI somehow ignored it said he "had a fight with the son of the family that took him in after his mother died and threatened to return with a gun". If I recall, after the tragedy the family who was housing him said they had "no idea" he had the capability to do something like this. Damm, then what do you call the threat to shoot your son, "normal" behavior?.
