I have to wonder what the difference is between the 70's and now. Where I grew up it was not uncommon for a third of the cars parked in the high school parking lot to have rifles of shotguns in them during hunting season (some had their guns in their car/truck year round). Guns in plain view in window mounted gun racks in pickup trucks. Students went hunting before school started and after hours. Some carried hunting knives (6" - 8") on their side. No one thought to shoot up their classmates or was there a stabbing..

Violence in general is common place and the increasing number of people that are on the borderline of mental stability takes that in a gets ideas about the romanticized violence.

If you were an abused spouse who was reduced to defending herself by waving her restraining order as her ex beat her to death than you'd think less highly of gun control.

Funny you mention domestic abuse as a really large percentage of gun murders are exactly things like abusive partners killing their wife/husband. If your goal was actually to keep the maximum number of spouses alive you would be for gun control like I am. It's not though, which is why you're making an emotional appeal here instead of looking at the empirical evidence.

Providing that is accurate - 70s thru 90s saw a large spike. Hunting and gun culture was also around WELL before the 70s. So I mean if he had simply said 50s, you wouldn't have a response to that.

Again, there is no reason parks should be blocked from concealed carry. Anything that can happen outside the park can happen inside a national park, there is no magical barrier that changes the possibility of needing a gun.

One of the highschools here has a shotgun club, students go skeet and trap shooting regularly. No mass shootings even with very close exposure to guns there.

Per capita firearm ownership was also much, much lower in the 1950's. I couldn't find data on the percentage of households that owned guns that far back.

What surprises me is there is this hyper focus on guns as a way of disarming school shooters and mass murderers. Is there anybody out there that can actually say, "If I owned an AR-15, I probably at one point would have done the same, but thankfully I don't, so I didn't"

How many people out there do we feel are capable, but otherwise unable to commit mass murder? Either because they are not the legal age to buy the weapons, or they can't afford it, or whatever.

Common law is based upon the accepted general interpretation of a given law or circumstance. Historically the commonly held belief on 2A is that if the Congress wanted gun ownership to be restricted to only standing militia members that it would expressly state this but it doesn't. It specifies that the "right of the people" which explicitly states that the citizens outside of the recognized state militia have the right to keep and bear arms.

It doesn't matter if you like this or not just like the right doesn't like free speech when people are opposing their views but its their right to hold their own opinions. This is exactly why Congress needs to amend USC to specifically address the conditions under which gun ownership is not permissible. That way it will be law and not under the control of the executive branch to dismiss on a whim like what Trump did.

It's not whether I like it or not. It's what the 2A presents as the context as written.
