Florida has the worst drivers ever.

I was in St. Petersburg beach this past weekend and wow, I have never seen such horrible driving in my life. People pull out in front of other people like there is nothing wrong with it, people constantly drive 5-10mph below the speed limit, people constantly just slam on the brakes and stop in the middle of a 30mph road, people will slam on their brakes on a 50mph road because they see 1 person standing at a crosswalk of an intersection, even though there is a green light.

It was just constantly annoying as hell to drive down there. I don't know if it's because of all the old people or what, but it was just so damn annoying . I drove from St. Pete to Tampa and Clearwater, so maybe it's just those areas.

And on a side note, we took a cab from St. Pete to Tampa Bay to experience some more of a nightlife than St. Pete had and I had no clue how ghetto Tampa Bay was. The cabbie wasn't lying when she said it was kind of like mardi gras on the main strip we were at. Althogh the area was full of thugs and hard ass white boys, we still managed to have a great time and ended up going to some club that was closing down after the holiday weekend, and we later found out it was closing because 2 people were killed in there somewhat recently. I was surprised that people would be killed in a club like that because it was far more "upscale" than the surrounding places to go.

Even with all this, Florida was a lot of fun over the holiday weekend 🙂

I could've told you that... nothing I hate being behind more than a car with a Florida plate... okay maybe an elderly driver in a car with a Florida plate.

OMG so true. And *gasp* i rode my bike to clearwater beach through downtown. I don't recommend this! This area is extremely cyclist unfriendly!

Clearwater was ssssoooo congested on Sunday. We hung out at Shephards and it was so crazy packed there. Not to mention, they are doing construction everywhere there.

Sounds like you went to Ybor City. That's not a place you want to venture very far from the main strip.

5-10 years ago Ybor was an awesome place to party and hangout, but now gangs and wanna-be's have made it a dump.

Channel side area is a good place to hangout. It's a few blocks down from the Hockey arena and it's not infested with dirtbags.

Yup that's where we went. The cab driver told us about YBor City and Channel Side, but from what she said, Channel Side was more of a chilled out bar environment. We wanted to go somewhere that was more like a club or bar we're used to going to when out in DC. We had the more chill bars at St. Pete where we were staying, and considering the cab ride was very expensive we just wanted to go somewhere that was a little wilder.

But we had no clue at how trashy/ghetto it would be. Our cabbie dropped us off at one end of the strip and initially I was like "what the hell, why did she drop us here?" cause when we got out of the car, we felt like we were about to get jumped, but we just headed up the strip.

As long as you stay on 7th or 8th Ave between 15th and 20th Streets, you should be ok. They have a lot of cops and cameras down there. People get in trouble when they go outside of this "safe zone". In college, I worked down there parking cars on the weekends so I got to some of the "best" areas.

The city is cleaning up some of the areas near the port and downtown, but Ybor is a different story. They are getting ready to open a few thousand condos in dowtown.

Yeah...Ybor will do that to you. My wife used to go line dancing at a place called Wranglers in Ybor. That part of town is so ghetto, but for what you were looking for, that's the main place to do it.

Channelside is a lot more "chill bars". SoHo (South Howard) can provide some good times, and a little more upbeat than Channelside.

Yeah, Tampa Bay is kinda sucky, driving is horrible, old people everywhere. US 19 is the most pathetic excuse for a highway, ever.

And be careful in Clearwater, if you walk the streets at night alone, you will almost certainly get jumped by a bunch of Scientologists in white shirts and blue pants holding a bunch of leaflets... scary.

I had almost forgotten about them opening a branch in Ybor.
