Of course its about jobs!!

wait guess what...enforcement will cost MUCH more than what it saves!!!

Wonder if Rick Scott stands to personally profit from this since he owns a HUGE chain of minute clinics in that state....wonder where those tests are going to happen?

fishing I know...

"The Legislature is already working on his campaign promise to require those who apply for welfare in Florida to undergo a drug screening before receiving benefits. "

how much will this cost the taxpayers? common sense not so common in Florida government it seems. remove all Republican'ts from office now!

Good. If you have money for drugs then you don't need welfare.

I suppose that is why they are doing random testing. You dont have to test everyone, just enough to make a point.

"Floridians deserve to know that those in public service, whose salaries are paid with taxpayer dollars, are part of a drug-free workplace," Scott said. "Just as it is appropriate to screen those seeking taxpayer assistance, it is also appropriate to screen government employees."
I wonder if the Governor and his staff are also on testing rotation?

It is disturbing......that it took this long to implement something like this.

I'm sure it's all about less intrusive govt and saving taxpayers' money, right?

Or maybe it's just another attempt to shift attention away from the looting and financial meltdown their policies created...

For the most part that is how the unemployment systems works. There is very little checking to make sure that a person is not working(under the table) or actually looking for work.

...and how do Drugs work into this?

Great idea! Finally, someone stepping up to the plate to do something about these drug addicts taking our money. As soon as they're denied benefits after failing their drug tests, they'll have to actually WORK for a living -- just like the rest of us.

But wait, unemployment is extremely high. So with no employment opportunities, and no pittance of welfare benefits they'd receive, I'm sure crime will increase. Hiring more police officers, processing these people through the judicial system, and imprisoning them will certainty cost magnitudes more than giving out welfare benefits -- not to mention the damage done to the communities.

It would make a lot more sense to stop giving away such easily attainable free money in the first place.

Why not test for Cholesterol? Chocolate?
afaik there are no laws against the possession or consumption of chocolate or cholesterol.

I don't care for Rick Scott at all. imo, he's a douche. I can agree with this though, at least for welfare recipients. People receiving government funds shouldn't be blowing their money on drugs.

Nowadays they send you to a private prison where prisoners = big money. 2 million incarcerated in the USA and counting.

We are rebuilding our manufacturing base to compete with China alright. Same way we built it in the 1800s -good old-fashioned down home American slavery.

Doesn't matter what the Legality is. Chances are this Law is Unconstitutional though.

This is so telling and funny. Now... we all know the FL governor is the only one truly on drugs. Just wait till that hits the fan. So typical... Test everyone else, while he is the one actually using.

Is there a loophole for the welfare queens who don't actually buy drugs, just trade some ass for it?

I really don't see the point. If the results of a drug test are not enough evidence to prosecute on drug charges, why should they be actionable for other things?
