Floppy wont work

I recently built a new system and the new floppy drive i ordered wouldnt work. So I went and purchased another one. This one does the same thing. It always seems to be running the green is always lit and it sounds like it is running. When I put a floppy in and try to read it it says please insert a disk in drive.

I tried changing drives didnt work. Tried changing power cables didnt work. Tried changing IDE cables didnt work.

Anyone have any ideas?

It sounds like you have the floppy cable in upside down/backwards..... try flipping it over. You may have to make the notch fit the tab on the cable (some have a little cutout for it that can be broken out). You need to make sure pin 1 on the drive and pin 1 on the cable (usually has a red stripe) align. Also, make sure if the cable has more than one connector that the drive is on the connector right after the twist in the cable.

To simplify things a bit, you always want the red on the power and the red on the ribbon cable to match ... that's how I remember it 😉 Red to red. Works for any ribbon-style connection.

One other tip: The end without the twist is attached to the floppy controller. Attach the connector after the twist to floppy drive A:.
