floppy isn't recognized

when i put the cord on the right way, it does nothing, it won't light up even when i put a disk in the drive, when i put the cord on backwards it stays lit, so i know power is getting to the drive, but when i click on the drive in my computer it says that there is no disk. i have tried 2 drives in 2 computers that i set up. what is wrong? if anything works it should be the floppy right? everything else works. i have tried many disks.

Sorry to sound silly, but you do have TWO cables attached to the floppy, right 😉
(the power and then the ribbon cable to the mobo)

Maybe try another ribbon cable, sounds like the power connector is working.

i have tried 2 ribbon cables, and it is not disabled in bios, i really have tried everything i could think of

actually floppy is a fairly sh!tty thing, that's why I don't have one in my system.
from what you're describing, it sounds as one or more of the following:
1. IDE on the mobo is f*cked.
2. your cable is f*cked.
3. your floppy is f*cked.
and if neither or all of the above then...
4. you're f*cked 😉

Do you happen to have a DFI LanParty board?

I had the same problem with my DFI LanParty UT nF4 Ultra-D and Mitsumi 7-1 floppy combo. Basically when I had it 1 way it would stay lit and the other way nothing happens. When I updated my BIOS and installed the nVidia IDE drivers, it fixed it.

Is this a new floppy?

I bought a new floppy at a computer swap meet, what I found out was I was inserting the cable upside down. Cause of poor design I had to cut out part of the silicon underneath of the Floppy so it could work. Hope it helps good luck

i tried 2 new drives and different floppies with the cable both ways, i did everything i could think of. it is also not disabled in bios.
