Ok so I install my Alpha 8045 tonight. just like the swifty you have to take the mobo totally out of the case. I do it with no problems pretty easy. I also just got 3 rounded cables so I install them as well. put the computer back together and fire it up.
7F on the Postman (epox 8k7a) and setup screen shows floppy fails! Floppies lite is stuck lit on green. Is my floppy shot? Floppy channel buzzed/? what you all think? YES I tried my old cable it still says fail. Would clearing CMOS help at all???

BTW the Alpha 8045 killed off 5-6 degrees off my gladiator.

thanks in advance!

No it just seems as you got your cable on backwards.

light always on= cable backwards. :)

Uh.. I don't mean to insult... but are you sure you got the floppy cable on the right way? The green light on constant is a give away and you didn't mention it.. soooo
edit: damn..beat me to it

It's ok,it's a very common mistake.

in this case green=no go for floppy. :) unless you floppy drive had a red led.;)

The reverse orientation happens at the floppy connection since most mobo nowadays have an orientation tab where in the cable connector will only go one way. But on the floppy side it'll always go either way. When they say it's reversed, we do not refer to the connectors having to be oriented between the mobo and the floppy, rather it's the red stripe on the cable which represents pin 1. Meaning the red stripe on the cable could be either on the left or right side of the connection.
