floppy drive

I built this system about 2 months ago. Everything works fine, except the floppy drive, which bios (1707) won't recognize. The light stays on all the time. Everyone says the cable is reversed. There are only 4 possible positions, as it is only one ribbon cable. Every position has been tried at least twice. No luck. Is it possible the mobo (asus p5w dh deluxe) is defective? It works fine, otherwise. I've put in a floppy drive I know works, with the same result - light on, no recognition

Turn one end of the ribbon cable over.

Done that - I think. The twisted end goes into the drive, right? So, two possible positions on the twisted end of ribbon cable. That leaves two possible positions on the other end (into mobo). Tried them all.

Yes, the twisted end goes to the drive. The light staying on is the clue that it is reversed.

Did you check to see if you enabled it in your CMOS?

Twisted end to the drive, pin1 (stripe) on cable to pin1 on pc board of the drive (usually silkscreened on the board) and stripe aligned to pin1 of the mb socket.. Light on all of the time means not pin1 to pin1 on either the mb or the drive.
