Hey I finished building my new pc and everything's working great so far cept that I get a "Floppy disk fail(40)" when I start it up and i cant get the leds on my case to work but thats not a real problem...so does anyone know whats wrong with the floppy..I tried switching the floppy cables around and checked to make sure the drive is hooked up to the power supply and everything looks fine and the floppy cable is firmly in the motherboard...its a teac floppy drive if that makes a difference...thanks in advance

Is the red wire of the floppy cable going to pin 1 of the floppy drive? If you can't tell, just flip the connector around and try it out. Sorry if you already tried this, but I didn't really understand what you meant buy switching the floppy cables around.

If you turn the connectors for your LED's around 180 degrees your LED's should work. The current must be flowing through them the correct way for them to light up.

Ok the floppy drive works now but I still can't get the LEDS to work...I have tried rotating them around 180 degrees but they still don't work...any other suggestions?

If you have a meter, you can easily check to see which is the + and -. If they won't light and you have power, make sure they are on the right pins. It's easy to plug those into the wrong pins. I built a system for a friend a few months ago. The USB expansion card wouldn't work. After about an hour, I realized I had only plugged in 4 pins (it's an 8-pin connector!).

OK I got both to work now...the hard drive one I just had on the wrong pins...but the wierd thing is that for the power led I couldnt figure it out so I just went back and tried all the different ways I could plug the led into the mobo and the one that I had first tried when I first booted (and retried a couple more times) ended up being the way that it worked....in other words the way thats works now I had tried before multiple times and it didn't work...the only way I can explain it is that somehow the hard drive led is related to the power led and won't work unless the hard drive led works...but anyway they both work now so thanks for the help guys!
