floppy drive not working

Likwid here again, building a new comp etc. (btw I've built many before, just haven't had this problem). The floppy drive's LED is on when the machine is on, but bios says "Floppy drive failed". I've switched cables, switched the ends on the cables, switched power, and reset bios to default settings. What is this?

Alright, thanks for the responses, here's something for the Database of Knowledge©. Both of my cables that I was trying with were tabbed on both ends, and so they were restricted to only one orientation connecting to the drive, like ATA cables. I found an old cable laying around that wasnt tabbed on one side, so I could put it "upside down" and it worked. Hoorah for old cables.

You see alot of floppy cables 'keyed' wrong. The red stripe, pin 1 should be on the left side, looking at the back of the floppy drive. A sharp knife will cut the tab off the connector.
