Floppy Drive just Blew Up :Q

OK, so my PC is in pieces, with my motherboard on a table with everything connected into oit, and my case is right next to it stripped bare. I just bought a new Enermax 431w PSU to replace my 300w PSU. I successfully installed it within a minute or two. I then placed my floppy drive straight onto the caseand wacked the power button.

Smoke came billowing out from the back of the Teac floppy drive. I quickly turned the power off. There was a nasty smoky burning smell. Its still here and won't go away :( .

So basically, my computer works fine now but with no floppy drive. So, what Floppy Drive should i buy? Are there any differences between different models? There all in the range of £8 to £16.

thanks

dave

(damn this smell, it just won't go away...)

I dont think there is much difference in floppy drives...

and how often would it be used anyway

by the way - if you put the magic smoke back into the drive it WILL work again ;)

If you really need a floppy drive, why not buy an LS-120 drive? If you ask me, the floppies' time was over years ago. Name me one thing you can do with a floppy that you can't do with a CDRW.

And that is a bad thing? ;)

My floppy has been with me for 25 years. I sure hope it blows up. ;):Q

I want to remove my floppy drive to make a statement... I use it about once every two years and it only works half the time.

One thing I like about floppy drive is that you never worry about upgrading it every six months.

Did you bother to try and find out why your drive went up in smoke? I don't think it's coincidence it happened after putting in the new power supply. You might have shorted some pins or you might have a problem with the power. I'd at least run the power leads to a voltmeter and make sure you are OK before burning out another $14 floppy drive.

Install drivers on a floppy disk for a modem...

Floppies are often the last resort of a geek.

You can scorn floppydrives, but one day you'll need one. Count on it.

Anyway, the floppydrives I'm using range in age from 5 up to about 9 years.
