Floppy Drive - Cannot Install this Hardware!

I built a computer a few months ago and everything worked fine except the floppy drive. So I thought it was faulty and just recently just bought a new one. I installed it and XP came up with a window saying that it cannot find the hardware. The floppy came with no disk, and when I click on the A: drive it says to insert disk when there is on inserted. The light turns green like its trying to read it. Where can I get a drive? What can I do to get XP to find the correct info. I need this floppy drive soon, and I can't find the answers. The motherboard is an ASUS P4S800D-E if that matters.

try a different cable. The cable may be bad. If it still doesn't work, try the floppy in a diff. PC, if possible.

it could also be hat the cable is backwards. Try turning the cable around, the end connecting to the floppy drive. If the light is always on, then the cable is backwards. Also, as Greg said, check the BIOS settings.

beat me to it 😛

What is a floppy drive? Oh yea! I remeber now. It's that ancient little box with the slot and the button and a green light. What program are you using that NEEDS a floppy? I read in a history book somewhere that floppy drives went the way of PCI slots.
