Floppy Disk Failed (i need help) =(

I just unplugged the wires for my floppy disk to see if my old one is the same thing. Ofcourse i unplugged the wires from my floppy disk and now when i start up my computer it says "Floppy disk(s) fail (40)" in the black screen. Can anyone please help me? Really appreicaite it ^^. Later guys! and thx!
 
you probably plugged it in the wrong way.

the floppy cable can be plugged into both ways the piece with the werd thing on cable is the one that goes into the floppy drive.

Most floppy problems are due to a backward cable. So ditto.

 
Is it possible to have a floppy drive malfunction other than the cables. I remember seeing an old computer in a work yard with the FDD still in it. I pointed it out to my brother and stated, I bet the thing still works. I should have pulled it out just to see, but I think rust and such finally got to it (this was in Washington state) Anyway cabling is the biggest problem. Make sure the plug with the twisted wire is placed in the FDD.
