Floppy cable troubles.......

Hey guys...

I took all my floppy cables & cut them down to 2 connectors only. Now they don't always work properly.
I've noticed that on the ends of "some" floppy cables - then end connector has a few wires flipped over.

Do I need to do this to get my floppy cables to work ??

I know you don't need those other connectors cuz you can buy single device rounded ones just that they're 24" long !!! I want closer to 8"-10"

LMK if you guys even understand what I'm asking 😛

errr..those "flipped over" wires are what makes a floppy cable a floppy cable.

that part is, like, really important and stuff

you'd be surprised how many people I've asked about it who've known JACK SQUAT

even when they understand what I'm asking about - they're just like "i dunno"

thanks man - what about the 2nd floppy connector - I mean if I plugged in 2 floppies - the 2nd connector DOESN'T have that flipped bit & therefore shouldn't???? work ??

The twist in the cable is a scheme that IBM came up with so they could ship all floppy drives with the same jumper settings but the machine could still tell the A drive from the B drive. The drive at the end of the cable beyond the twist is the drive identified as the A drive. The drive with no twist in the cable is identified as the B drive. To get the ID's correct after cutting out the twist you will have to change the jumpers on the drive you want to be the A drive.

apparently the bios uses the flip in the cable as well to distinguish between floppy A and floppy B, so they SHOULD both work if you plug in two floppy drives
