The opportunism at play is amazing. I'm thinking next he'll come out in favour of single-payer to try to nab remnants of Senator Sanders' movement...

Politico - Conway: Trump won't deport all undocumented immigrants

Donald Trump's new campaign manager on Sunday moved to clarify his new immigration policy, focusing on "being fair and humane" instead of deporting all undocumented immigrants.

The new plan is, "if you want to be here legally, you have to apply to be here legally," Kellyanne Conway told John Dickerson on CBS News' "Face the Nation." "He is not talking about a deportation force, but he is talking about being fair and humane."

That's a clear break from Trump's earlier position, which emphasized removing everyone who was in the country illegally, regardless of their individual circumstances. Conway said Trump's new stance wouldn't cost him voters who were drawn to that hard line because "this isn’t just a referendum on Donald Trump’s immigration policy, you have to contrast him to Hillary Clinton’s."

He's speaking about many of these minority issues in front of all-white audiences so the message is more like a feel-good "see, we're decent people". At the very least he's not talking to the minorities themselves because of who he might alienate.

He's less concerned about the optics of discussing black issues in front of white crowds than he is the optics of black crowds booing him and not being received well.

His entire campaign is about how amazing he is and how everyone loves him. He can't risk empty rooms or hostile crowds that don't chant along with everything he says.

Like every politician ever known. Tell the voters what they want t hear, then do what you want when you are elected.

Same old crap as Hillary.

Trump told the Republicans what they needed to hear during the primary.
And during a negotiation he'll start with an extreme position to reach the compromise he always aimed for.
Deporting everyone was never on the table.

If you believe in stimulus projects then you'd agree that hopefully the wall still happens.

What compromise is he aiming for and what is your basis for believing that?

Lol. What else do you tell yourself to rationalize your choice?

I am sure he draws the line when Trump comes out and says that there is no way to appease the Republican voters and elect a sane individual, but to make sure he saved the country he claimed the GOP nomination and threw the race for Clinton.

Ugh, this wouldn't be any more flimsy and transparent than if the Trump/Pence campaign changed their slogan to "We <3 Beaners!". Trump has simply said too many derogotory things about Hispanics/Mexicans/Spanish-speakers/brown people to make this all okay. Too much hatred has been fomented by this man and his minions.

Why is it only "liberals" who refer to Hispanics as "brown people." Are they aware of how racist that makes them look?

They definitely have been planting seeds all over the country, why are they surprised that some took root?

I doubt I even recall anyone using that term here on the to begin with.

Someone may have over time, maybe you.

You seem to be going full low grade troll tonight.

You're very bad at it.

On one hand, if I had meant to lump all hispanics under the umbrella of "brown people", I wouldn't have listed the other groups too. Its hard to keep track of the exceedingly long list of people that Trump has denigrated.

How about we try turning the tables here?

I'm not sure that leaky bucket holds much water either...

NM, I see you did that. My bad.

I guess I should have read the thread more, but isn't that a Trumpism to begin with ?
