I may be flying internationaly soon and have never done this before. I have only flown a few times before and dont really mind it at all. I am just curious about anything I should watch out for. I will be flying US Airways. Anyway to find out statistics about them?

Flying to where? International carriers mostly have better service than American carriers...

Earplugs if you are sensitive to noise. They are good to help you sleep anyways.

Bring a book.

Make sure you fill out the custom/immigrations forms they hand out on the place so you can speed your way through once you land. Make sure you know customs rules for the country you're going to and don't bring anything they don't allow.

I was just saying airlines not based in the United States have better service...dunno about flying to Europe though. My experience is in flying to asia...

It doesn't make a difference though if you just sleep through it...

As for safety jsut follow the same things you would for a domestic flight.

Not gonna happen. I'm flying to Hong Kong in a few hours. The only thing to worry about is your boredom and comfort sitting on a plane for that long. As far as safety is concerned, you'll land safe and sound. When you get back, tell us how you liked it.

Just for kicks, when the plane is in the air, get your backpack out of the overhead storage and put it on backwards, then run toward the front of the plane yelling "Ala Akbar". The reaction will be priceless!

you have already wasted too much time thinking about this

focus more on what you plan on doing for x hrs during the flight

Don't worry too much about it. I'm flying to HK in about a week and I don't really give it any second thoughts. If you're really anxious about it, just take some nyquil right after u get on the plane. Sleep through it.

I haven't had any nerve-related problems about flying, except after watching an episode of the Twilight Zone (Outer limits?). During flight, John Lithgow looked out the window and saw a little gremlin on the wing, tearing away at the engine. I think he ended up obtaining the air marshall's gun and blowing open the window.

* keep copies of your passport (and other documents) with you and in your check-in baggage.
* keep the phone numbers of nearby US embassies/consulates with you
