So I notice HBO's started putting the premiere episodes of its new series online at their website. I watched "Flight of the Conchords" ahead of the premiere this weekend to see what its all about. I kinda thought it'd be like an episodic version of a Tenacious D movie, but its not quite the same. Still, I found it funny and enjoyed the musical interludes, but I'm not sure how it'll do as a series.

They have several funny comedy songs, but the songs are just funny for a few listens not timeless rock classics like the music of D.

I watched the 30min concert (which was OK) but not the reality-ish show yet.

Seems like a 1-2 year deal. Of course nothing will top the... n/m

I though Rome was a good series also. Though the 2nd year kind of trailed off of focus every ep.

I saw a commercial and it looked interesting, but I have no HBO.
The first episode is free on HBO.com -- I think they're doing this to get people hooked on a show so they can subscribe.

I started watching it and then they started singing. It was neither funny nor good music. I turned it off and finished setting up my fileserver instead. :p

That's ironic, because that's EXACTLY how I feel about Tenacious D but almost everyone on the forums LOVES them! I actually liked 'Conchords' (FYI I never heard of 'em before the HBO show). I guess these kiwis are a bit too quirky for our tastes. I don't think it'll do very well on HBO then, but hopefully I'm wrong.

:D These folks are from my home country. I think they're pretty funny, and I hope they catch on in USA. Their stuff is pretty strange.

Yeah, they're like Tenacious D except... even more eclectic. They're hilarious, but their target audience is tiny. Tenacious D are practically pop stars by comparison.

I enjoyed it...they have a weird sense of humor that I like. I was in stitches with their HBO special that led to the series.

I predict it will not be back for another season. I can't see people signing up for HBO to watch this when they can watch You Tube for free to see something just as lame.

I find I am really enjoying this show. Normally I find this kind of thing annoying, but the songs are very clever and well done, and I like the cast.

It's getting a little catchy. The first episodes were really slooooow and well, depressing.

I watched the first episodes on HBO On Demand today. I liked it. Looking forward to seeing the rest.

I saw part of an episode on Comedy Central (I think) and I got a pretty good chuckle. They were singing from the point of view of a man and a woman, but the man kept remembering everything wrong (but there was a twist ending).

The robot song was pretty good.. it seems pretty hit or miss, I keep missing it on TV so I'll have to catch up with OnDemand

Listen to the ones in my post, two posts up - they're hilarious IMO, and better than the robot song.

It's not a great show by any means. However, I put the series on my record list before the first episode, and haven't considered taking it off. Some of their songs are pure genius like the "if that's what you're into" song from last week. What more can you ask than for a show to be entertaining every week?
