My fellow Michigander, you have a better chance of hitting the lotto 3 times than you do of being in a plane crash. Sit back and enjoy the flights and your time in Hawaii.

A book, a laptop and a few crossword puzzles help pass the time.

I have somewhat of a fear of flying...I'm usually OK, but turbulence gets to me. And I used to fly every week - doesn't go away.

What I usually do is get a window seat. I find that for some reason if I look out the window and see the plane is still OK, it helps a bit.

Yeah, i have a slight phobia of flying too... and turbulence gets to me more as well. But i'd rather not look out the window.

That's just irrational. You need to stop having irrational fears of flying, and you need to understand that there is no coorelation between religion and flight safety.

Her reason:

"Well what if the pilot goes berzerk and starts killing everyone with that gun?"

I hate to break it to you lady, but if the pilot wanted to kill everyone he'd simply crash the plane.

Drink lots of water BEFORE you get on the plane.

Yah, airplane lavatories are nasty, but the water on the plane actually IS dangerous.
Most of you who get air sickness probably really get it from the plane (uncanned) drinks NOT from the turbulence.
There was a 20/20 expose recently on how most of the water served on planes is 2-3 orders of magnitude above FDA bacteria level limits.

Exactly...but god forbid a pilot slips and says that aloud. I have a bunch of airline pilot friends, they are absolutely under a magnifying glass at all times. If you say, look, do or even think what somebody doesn't want you to, byebye life.

"Sure captain, we'll let you pass security with that glock, but the nail clippers will need to stay with me."

What airline were they talking about? Every major airline I've flown on are pouring bottled water.

Exactly. I've always had bottled water as well.

Well I live in Hawaii and have flown several times back and forth between the mainland. While I have had many smooth flights, it is also very very common (and completely normal) to encounter some air turbulance halfway between cali and hawaii. I don't mean to make you worry, just go into the flight expecting some very mild turbulence that both the pilots and planes are very equipped to handle. If you drink alcohol, a nice buzz tends to negate any fear turbulence may cause.

If, while you are here, you fly to maui, you can definately expect a bouncy ride into the airport there mainly due to the wind coming through the center of the "valley isle" where the airport is located.

Don't worry. Remember, at any given minute there are about 1 million people in the air so this should give you some confidence in the success rate of air travel.

Enjoy the trip! Its been a little windy and rainy here but hopefully things clear up for your stay.

Is it the height thing? I can't even go up on the roof of our 3rd story house without going weak in the knees...but it doesn't seem quite real when I'm in an airplane. One option which works quite well is to get drunk before and during the flight.

Think about it. :)

I hope you mean 10MG of valium, because 100MG would FVCK her world up for sure...:)

I hope you mean mg...because I don't think it would be possible to swallow either 10Mg or 100Mg of valium...;)

I don't see how people can be scared of flying. My father died in a plane crash and flying doesn't care me or make me nervous.
