Flight anxiety...calm me down...

L

Lola

I am not the best flyer and i soon will be going from Michigan to Hawaii. I am SO very nervous. So, I need you guys to calm me down. For those that travel a lot, what do you do on long flights. Should i think about any meds that may make the trip easier? Any tips would be greatly appericated!:)

They do have medication. I'd suggest reading a book, or bringing a laptop and a gamepad and play some games (SNES or something?). Something to make you ignore the ads to the left side of the forums. Errrr something to make you ignore flying that is!

Meds? You have meds? Good meds? Tranqs are always a plus...maybe a 100mg Valium to get you thru the first few hours. You have a much better chance of survival by flying to Hawaii instead of driving.

Think about it. :)

UA is fine, they give sky mileage, which can be useful! Unlike the ads to the left.....

I've never been a nervous flyer, most times I'm asleep before the plane takes off and wake up right as the plane's pulling up to the jetway. I guess I'm not much help. ;)

Meds? Unless you have an airsickness problem all you should need is alcohol + something like a movie or book to keep your mind off both boredom and the flight itself. Hell, have some fun and try to join the mile-high club (a good idea, unlike the ads to the left...)

See your doctor, they have good meds for this type of thing. And UA is fine. They haven't had a fatality since '68, I think...

Get drunk, pass out. Besides, they say more than half the planes nowadays arrive safely at their destination. ;)

I don't think anyone should hold something like that against an individual airline... and I don't think something like that would happen on a flight to Hawaii either.
I absolutely hate flying too, and I used to have to fly all the time for work (thank God not the past few years though). For those who have it, the fear and dread of flying is something that never seems to go away, regardless of how often you fly. Best you can do is grin and bear it, pop a valium, have a drink in the airport before take-off, and try not to think about the part you hate most (unfortunately, I hate take-offs... you know that part right where the plane rotates and leaves the ground, then that split-second or so where the plane kind of hangs there just before the wings catch and the pilot goes full up on the throttles? God, I hate that.... )

Why are you nervous? Are you afraid to fly? Flying is great I love it... Its the safest form of travel, don't sweat it.

If you hit water at over 150mph (and the plane goes close to 700), the surface tension makes it effectively more solid than concrete. Plane crash is an instantaneous and painless way to go :;

Just think of how many fricken planes take off and land everyday. Thousands upon thousands, day in and day out. Your flight is nothing special. That route is probably flown multiple times on a daily basis.

Did you go to church Easter Sunday. If so all should be well... :p

Dont sweat it. Like Keego suggested, bring a laptop and a couple good light-hearted DVDs to pass the time.

Well, she'll want two... one for the flight there, and one for the flight back.

Or just have some drinks.
