Flight 1549 Tapes

Balls of steel.

His voice never even quivered.

That is some amazing shit ... how calm he was, under almost certain death circumstances ...

The calmness that all parties show, not just the pilot is CRAZY. "What runway do you want?" "The Hudson" "Ok"..... nerves of steel. Like they've done this a hundred times before.

The ATC impressed me a lot (as did the pilot)- calm, collected, efficient..speaking fast yet clearly, etc. Incredible, especially considering the amount of stress involved.

Exactly. Like it was an everyday occurrence. How many emergency landings do you think an ATC employee handles a year? Yet they make it like the pilot is ordering a hamburger and fires.

Heard it this morning a few times on the local news channel.

Cactus 1549 Pilot: We're going for a dive in the Hudson, NOW!

Paraphrased:

'My engines are gone.'

'Which engine?'

'All of them.'

'Ok. What's your pleasure?'

 for all.

I could not do either job...amazing...so calm, so professional, seriously like just another day at the office...

Which runway would you like at Teterboro 1549?

We're dumping in the Hudson.

Uh.... Say again captain?

They are trained to initiate emergency procedures, but still it's very cool.

Yep- like police/fire dispatchers are trained for high stress / multitasking, but it's still very impressive to see a good one in action. This guy was very, very good.

That was decades of training and dedication wrapped up in 1:40.

Not to mention thousands of deaths. Can't help but think Tenerife played a part in this.

Epic work by both pilot and atc. Truly epic.

This audio is so amazing. ATC's are always juggling but dam... I am shocked how fast he is able to give options, relay communications, contact other airports in a matter of short seconds. Nobody hesitated and it seems like all options and commands were given and executed perfectly with confidence. So much respect for these guys in the control tower.
