I just recently upgraded my mb and cpu and now am intermittently (but most of the time) getting a "flickery mouse" in Windows 98.
System specs:
Epox 8KHA+, Athlon XP 1600+, 256m, IBM 46g + IBM 30g, LiteOn 24/10/40x, Toshiba 16x DVD, Voodoo5 5500, 3Com 3C905, Soundblaster Audigy
Gamer, AdvanSys PCI SCSI, ATI TV Wonder VE, etc, etc. Running the latest 4-in-1 drivers (4.35v) and latest drivers for everything else, latest BIOS, and the
usual Win98 updates.
Ever since I got the mb/cpu, the mouse icon will quickly flicker between the normal pointer and the busy icon, and does this most of the time. It's annoying
in general but also very troublesome when trying to do stuff like grab the corner of a window, when it's hard to tell if you're on it or not because of all
the flickering. I've reinstalled many, many times, both 98 and 98SE, and it consistently does it from the first boot of 98 into the final desktop. I found that
by disabling ACPI in the BIOS, the flicker goes away, however I cannot get the Audigy drivers to install properly then, even when the card is on its own IRQ.
I'd like to stick with 98 to keep maximum compatability (with games, mainly) at this point. I have not tested to see if the problem exists in 2000 or XP. I've
tried disabling the "loadpowerprofile" in the startup, all to no avail. It's driving me insane, anyone seen this before and/or have any ideas on how to
resolve it? Thanks!
