flicker on startup and accessing display settings

Just installed a asus radeon 9800xt. It worked fine until I started installing the drivers and other softwares. now whenever i enter windows. black lines, 3cm think would run across the screen 3x.
every single time. and whenever i go to display properties -> settings -> advanced, the same lines runs twice.
I've been using nvidia cards all this while and never face this kind of issue.
is my radeon card faulty or is that normal?

any1 with similar problem? i didnt get this problem b4 installing the latest catalyst.
should i just revert back to the older version provided in the cd?

Did you completely remove the nvidia drivers you had on the comp. before you installed the 9800XT? If not, use Drivercleaner to remove the remnants of the nvidia drivers. Also, you might've gotten a bad card

Maybe revert to old drivers and/or uninstall the software to get to the last known good configuration.
