I'm looking for a backup solution that is similar to RAID 1, but allows you to use the drive in another system (in the event of a system fail) and access the data as if it's a normal drive. This is for a home environment and I do not need instant failover, but what I do need is a good backup/maintenance solution that doesn't require expensive hardware and is unable to be used without said hardware.

Has anyone used FlexRAID or are there other solutions for this? I was using WHS v1 and I loved drive extender w/ duplication. I've since built a new server and I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate as the OS. The only reason for this is because the file/media server also serves as the host for my Ceton InfiniTV 4 digital network tuner. Currently I have a 1 to 1 HDD backup solution using SyncToy. It works, but i'd rather have something active and with monitoring capabilities...a Smart solution if you will. My motherboard has RAID 1, but again, if the motherboard goes bad, you lose all the DATA with it because you don't have access to the RAID hardware to rebuild.

The other issue is my media is now larger than 2TB and cannot be stored on a single drive. That was the nice thing about drive extender because you had one drive that could store all the media, but it was actually spanned on multiple drives. All that said, what are my options and what do people use/suggest?
