Flatscreen 17" CRTs?

I need a CRT by this summer, because this monitor I use is getting aged (17" Gateway EV700 from 1997) and its hurting my eyes. What I am currently eyeballing is the Viewsonic G75f or G71f+SB. The G71f is $162 on Newegg (FREE SHIPPING) and the G75 is $165, w/o free shipping. Does anyone know if those are good monitors? I have kept my options open, and it seems like Samsung makes very good ones too. I play games, and do work with graphics as well as watch DVDs on it occaisonally. I saw a Samsung 763MB at Bestbuy once and it looked pretty good. I want to buy off of newegg, so any advice on the best from their stock would be very appreciated . If anyone can help me out here, I would be eternally grateful!

Thats not being snippy. Thats accepting the fact that people probably won't respond.
I once asked about peoples' thoughts on certain 17" LCDs and after a week nobody responded, so I figure the same will probably happen. Reviews aren't enough...I also like to find out what people say about their personal usage of certain monitors. Doesn't matter anymore, because i've made a choice anyways to replace my ailing monitor.

of the two viewsonics you listed (if they are your only choice) you should definitely pick the G75f.

you might want to get an AG monitor. trinitron/diamondtron. the entire office at work uses CTX FD trinitron 17" and they are quite good. look for 96KHz - those are the good 17". other good monitors I hear are LG flatrons - used one for a while and the dot-pitch is perfect - really tight and the picture does not appear 'dotty' - like on dots.. I hope you get what I mean.

so generally - look for a monitor with a tight dot pitch and high KHz rating, like 96. that means you will be able to run 1024x768@100Hz and 1280x960@85Hz.

17" only? 19" is cheap now days. nec's superbright is 259 at frys, its beautiful.

anyways, a 17" should be able to do 100+hz at 1152x864 before you even consider it. my 4 year old viewsonic could do that.

I initially was thinking of the G75f, yea. I was going to bank on buying from Newegg because I trust them and unless someone can find me a good price of an LG flatron from a reputable site, I will go with it. I never thought of looking at a CTX monitor...weird! I am concerned with refresh rate, yea...but I am big on image quality instead. I was initially going to get a 17" LCD monitor but the decision drove me mad, and I realized I won't have enough $$$ for one (well, I will but i'm a college student and I'm not going to break the bank to get one, or risk lowering the $$ I have for tuition). I am not going for 19" because I need to keep it under $200, and I find that some very nice 17" flatscreen CRTs are under $200...but if I have a good amount of cash by summer I may go for a 17" LCD after all. I never had an intention of going for 19" CRTs because of the space available for the monitor. I was hoping of getting an LG monitor originally but I had a hard time finding them .

I could re-evaluate my space and see if a flat-screen 19" CRT is reasonable. I'm going to keep ALL my options open. I had figured that the G75f, at $165 on newegg seemed like a very good deal...good to see that it is . I don't know if I mentioned this, but this monitor I use right now is 5 years old and its going downhill fast, thats why I am looking for a new one.

Personally, I won't buy monitors online. I feel that everyone is different and what is a great monitor for one might not be so good for another. I only buy local so that I can see the monitor's quality, picture etc. I find it difficult to pick one over another based only on reviews and other people's opinions, just cuz my vision is gonna be different than someone elses. Maybe try to hit a couple local shops and check out the monitors and see if you like one better than the other?

I have done that, and I have found them all much cheaper online. The main reason I am searching online is because in my vicinity the only one I'd basically buy from is Best Buy and they have a weak selection. One day maybe i'll go to Comp USA, but its in the heart of the metro area of Minnesota and I don't have the time to drive up there.
