I installed it two days ago on my Windows 2000 pc without any problems. Followed the enclosed instructions and is working like a charm.

Did you do all that crazy sh1t with the installation of the software before the hardware and all that? I wonder if that's my problem? I installed it correctly (hardware first) rather than the crazy sh1t in the instructions. I tried to undo it all and start over the way the instructions say, but 2k BSOD's on boot if I take the firewire card out.

Did you use the included 3.72 driver or the UK 3.75 version? Was the install smooth?

I just stuck the included CD in and let it do its thing. After the software install completed then turned computer off and installed Firewire card. At that time I did not have time to play with the scanner so I used the computer without attaching the firewire cable. The next day attached the cable and scanner worked without any problems.

It's a generic Texas Instruments based card with 3 external ports. The cable is 6pin/6pin and only a couple of feet long. Plan on getting a new cable unless you have room to fit the scanner in your case. 15' is the maximum cable length for firewire and I paid $12 for such a cable at buy.com

hey worms- I had trouble installing the driver in W2k for the firewire card. I got "data is invalid" error. I finally found this info ~
fix: This error appears to be due to a protection problem in the Windows registry and can occur with a variety of drivers (sound cards and SCSI drivers have been reported).
To fix this problem,

go to Start, Run... and type "regedt32" without the quotes to run the Registry Editor. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\ENUM\PCI and you will see a number of keys of the form "VEN_xxxx", where xxxx are strings like "1102&DEV_0004&SUBSYS_00011103&REV_04".

Under each of these folders will be another folder with a long numerical name. Open each folder and look for the "DeviceDesc" which matches the hardware you are trying to install. Right Click on the "VEN_xxxx" for that device and select 'Permissions' and then tick "Allow" for "Full Control". Close Regedit and then continue with the installation of your device.

Now I am no registery hacker pro but this is simple and it worked perfectly, and this scanner kicks butt. I just bought a second one for home. btw the deal is still valid
