There's a big difference but I wouldn't lose any screensize over the matter of buying new + if you're thinking of Trinitron there is a slight line that runs Horizonal that some people notice.

If you're worried about glare and reflection, get the flat screen, if not, go for the 19". Personally, I like my 17" Trinitron flat better than most non-flat 19" monitors I've seen. If you're going to an actual store, look at the monitors and compare the pictures. Ask them to hook it up to a display PC to get an actual idea of the image quality. Also, open-box monitors can be a steal.

Problem is im buying through a reatailer...

Both Monitors are from AOpen...

AOpen® A70EF+SB Silver/Black FLAT 17" - 0.27mm Dot Pitch - 1280x1024 @ 66MHz - TCO: MPR II - 3yr Warranty

AOpen® A90E 19" - 0.26mm Dot Pitch - 1600x1200 @ 68MHz - TCO 99 - 3yr Warranty

I have never owned a flatscreen, is it mainly glare that it gets rid of?
