Flat Screen Moniter

I am going to be getting a flat screen moniter for my father. He does NOT play games or anything, He doesn't really use his computer for anything graphics-intensive. He pretty much just uses spreadsheets/word processing and surfing the internet. I don't want to restrict him or get a crappy moniter, but I don't think he really needs anything top of the line. Does anybody have any suggestions on what are some good flat screen moniters for these kind of uses?

Thanks

when you say flatscreen do you mean LCD or flatscreen crt? For lcd's look at dell they tend to have great deals (ie a 20inch for $350) for quality screens.

I was thinking LCD, but I don't know much about "flatscreen CRTs" Anyway, I don't think anything more than 17 inches would be necessarry.

Got the rebate yet?

I always advise against mail-in rebates when you're dealing with budget companies, because they don't have much of a reputation to uphold and rebates are a hassle. They count on 1) people forgetting about rebates and (once you mail out the form, chances are three months later you won't get around to complaining about why you didn't get the rebate) and 2) putting lots of little BS reasons into the form to justify as to why you're not getting your rebate (i.e. "you didn't mail it within 5 days of getting your monitor, so we're keeping your money"). So make a copy of everything you send in and be prepared to fight it if the rebate isn't delivered promptly.

I personally like the Polyview V293, but I used to work for the company that sells it in the States, so I'm naturally a bit biased in the matter. No messy rebates to worry about. Since the monitors are likely from reputable original manufacturers (Polyview is from Chi Mei, Fuji Plus I don't know about but it *should* be good enough) I don't think the monitor specs are much of an issue, but whether or not you're willing to fight for the rebate probably should be more of a concern.

Newegg has the Acer 1912 for $260 + $12 ship. It's a nice 19" LCD for the money. Good color, contrast and brightness. Search for user comments on. Most people that own it are happy with it.
