hi, well yesterday, something happened and i dont really know how. my dell computer's monitor just died on me i think. it was working alright for over a year and a half, but until yesterday, the monitor failed to turn on. i was using my computer, and turned the screen off to eat dinner. when i got and turned it on, nothing showed. the green ligt was on, but there was nothing!
afterwards, i just decided to reboot the system, cuz it usually helps with any issues. while rebooting, the screen continually flashes white lines across the entire montior, but never shows anything else. also, the green light flashes, as if its turning on and off repeatedly.

i called dell tech support, and after 30min, got no help from them. i then called pny tech support, as my video card is a pny 6600gt agp. i thought there was something wrong with that. but after 20min, the only solution was to increase my psu wattage to over 450w. i dont kno why, since my computer was runnign fine for four months after gettiing a new video card.

if any of you have encountered this problem and know a solution, itd be greatly appreciated. on a side note, i used my old monitor (crt one) and it also did the exact same thing.

I would suspect that your psu is not providing enough juice for your video card.

Are you sure the computer is booting? If your computer usually automatically logs on, do you hear the windows chime shortly after you power it on? Many times people think there is something wrong with the monitor when there is actually some problem with the computer not POSTing.

Also, as to why you may need a new power supply, they commonly fail. Especially if the computer is a Dell like your monitor. If it is a Dell and the PSU has failed, you will want to also check the system board for bad capacitors.

I have this same problem and I am pretty sure it's the monitor or the cable Ive tested it with my old CRT. I just unplug the vga cable and plug it back in i'd like to fix mine too i'll be checking up on this thread.

edit: forgot to mention if you do unplug the vga cable make sure you wait tilll it says no signal than plug it back in.

edit: Check your cable make sure it's secured good from the monitor and the connector.

I tried a new cable on mine still doesn't work and even unplugging the vga cable from the back of the computer stopped working I now have to unplug it from the monitor itself which is a b!tch. I dont want to have to deal with it anymore but i'll be getting a real monitor soon anyways this is a 17'' LCD with 25ms reponse time thing sucks not mine btw. I will be getting a 2005FPW-2007FPW on my b-day with the rest of the money I have saved.

it seems as though my computer wasnt egtting enough power. i unplugged my secondary hard drive to test, and it worked!

to w00t, i would suggest that if u have a lot of devices running inside ur case, u should try to disconnect some. as for me, unplugging a hard drive worked. and just on a side note, heres my agp system config ::: p4 3.0ghz ht, 1x hdd now, geforce 6600gt, 4x ddr ram, 2 optical drives (dvd and cd-rw), and a case fan. also running a 300w psu. if u have the like, than u should be fine.

i dont suspect it to be any of the cables fault, cause after assuming my monitor went out, i went to grab my older crt one, and that also didnt work. i even switched up the power cords and dvi cables, but still nothing. so i think the problem with the monitor not responding is because of power shortage.
