The guys at work bought a bunch of LED flashlights off of Amazon and gave me one. Unfortunately these things get lost so easily so I went to my car and busted out my Fenix LD20 to look at some stuff.

One day in the R&D Lab I reported I saw some defects and I pulled out my light to show them the sample. I passed it down to the next guy who whipped out his company bought LED light and I laughed. My flashlight at the 2nd lowest setting (55 lumens) ran circles around whatever they saw. He called over the R&D director who was like can we borrow your light because we can't see crap. So my flashlight was handed around the whole day because honestly it was the only decent flashlight that could see stuff, so he asked me where to buy it and I just casually threw out Amazon. He jumped on it and bought 6 right away. 2 days later my fucking flashlight is missing (I swear it was on my desk and even when I leave my iPod here it doesn't go missing but a damn flashlight?) I spent a goddamn $60 on it. It turns out the replacements they ordered aren't even as good as mine. Bleh.

Anyways, half of me is proud that I introduced some LED light knowledge in the company, but I'm pissed I lost my own.

If my HDS U60 went missing, I'd track down all of my coworkers to check up on them. :p Good time to upgrade. I'm sure Fenix has loads of new models out.

Fenix is a good bang for the buck but I would not consider one a suitable replacement for the HDS Ultimate series. I have a Novatac 120P and it's nice but doesn't have the power management abilities of the HDS. Those were godlike for long battery life if you needed to extend it way out.

That ought to teach you to flash your fleshlight to everybody. If you got a good thing, keep it to yourself, and never share it with anyone. Not even your mother.

www.fenix-store.com is where to get your fenix flashlights. There is a discount code if you're part of the candlepower forums.

I've been looking for a replacement for my fenix p3d. I'd like something about the same size but I want the capability for momentary on. The nitecores with their "piston drive" where interesting as well but still no momentary on. Still looking for a p3d featured and sized light with momentary on.

HDS changed their name to 'Ra Lights' now. I just read some updates on their lights and they're bright. There's 170lumens and 200lumens out the front now. Good thing I upgraded the led in my U60, else I'd be very tempted by them.

I have this light. I just got some CR123A batteries for it. It's a perfect light to carry, it's very solid, weather proof, has 3 brightness settings and 2 strobes. It puts out enough light on the low setting for any 'normal' use. On high it's downright blinding.

I'm sure it's a knock off of another brand, but I'm quite happy with it. My only minor gripe is that the light looks just a little cooler/bluer than pure white.

ive never had anything taken off my desk (except my rigid bikini calendar) and i still wouldnt leave a good flashlight or tool out in the open.

i also have identifiers engraved somewhere in/ on all my stuff just in case. i work on lots of job sites, it has more than proven justified to me to be able to prove tools were mine.

I still like the size of the original better and the flexibility of the interface and battery life was second to none. I have a P1D Q5 that's rated at 180 lumens max and most of the time it's just too bright for looking behind a rack especially if something is shiny back there. The size of the P1D is great - if it had a tail clicky and programmable steps like the HDS it would be the perfect EDC.

We've already had this discussion on anandtech before. Expensive flashlights grow legs very easily.
For the office you should have a cheap piece of crap, something ugly that wont get stolen.

People are assholes.

Keep it with you at all times, never putting it down! Remember the story in Pulp Fiction about the watch? Well I'm not advocating backdoor storage of your prized possessions but you always do have that option! People may be assholes but remember they can never take yours away!

So is the place you are working for trying to save money by not turning on any lights and force you to use flashlights?
