A very effective flashlight is a laser sight on a 1911 .45 ... ~100 to >200 lumens. It is up to the intruder to decide if you are just holding a cat toy tho.

You are confusing metrics here. Laser power is measured in watts or fractional wattage - i.e. milliwatts. A gun sight is going to be <5mW to be compliant with regulatory agencies. (although many do run higher particularly green ones) Variances are also granted for bore sighting ammo cart lasers that are actually chambered inside the weapon for perfect sighting in daylight at ridiculous ranges. (BMG .50 with 250mW 532nm DPSS module comes to mind!)

THERE you are ... correct as to be expected.

the point is, light up an intruder's groin with a laser & the reflection lights up the vicinity of the room even if they are wearing black. It also gives a pretty good idea where a bullet will go.

But, just like swinging a mega flashlight or a flashlight duct taped on a pipe, hand gun usage does require training. They are all potentially lethal. The gun allows some distance tho. Personal choice this one.
