saw the pocketknife thread, figured i'd throw down a thread for any flashlight geeks.

currently when i have any kind of messenger bag or backpack on i carry a surefire e2L dual-stage. i find that for half of my needs the 3 lumen 100 hour runtime setting is enough. which means there is an insane amount of battery life available on that - very important feature IMO.

for keychain carry i just ordered a Maratac AAA. this thing is tiny but it puts out serious light for a good amount of regulated time. any flashlight i get has to be regulated.

this flashlight is barely bigger than a aaa battery so you can keep your keys in your pocket with this on it no problem. they make an AA version as well.

any other flashlight heads out here?

I has a Surefire 6P LED but it's my only light. I use it for night running.

I have a Surefire e2d LED defender that I carry around with me just about everywhere, and a couple of LED 6p lights. Most of my surefire lights are weaponlights though.

I have a surefire L7 digital and already posted the pic, so it wont be posted again. Especially because I dont wanna resize it.
Didnt pay for the thing, it was a gift. Its bright but due to the quick drain not much use outside of tactical situations.
For general purpose lighting I prefer my 6 D maglight. Also have a mini mag with LED and just after thanksgiving bought a bunch of cheap metal flashlights at Home Depot.
Have 3 mini photon lights in white, and one of each color. Also the infrared one which is basically useless since my night-vision monocular died.

Not to thread crap but people that are really into flashlights laugh at surefire's.

Fenix is where it's at for incredible performance and decent price point as well.

Not all of them. Surefire is a great brand, albeit expensive.

Fenix has a better price/performance ratio without question. Surefire isn't a bad brand though in the least. CPF forums seems to agree.

I just bought one of those this fall. Needless to say, it is amazing and worth the cash, IMHO. It is my first Surefire and indubitably not my last.

WTF is up with flashlight people? There's actually websites dedicated to "LOOK HOW BRIGHT THIS LIGHT IS!!!!" I guess I don't understand how a common thing can cause such interest. Are there hammer geeks, or toaster geeks, or pencil geeks too?

Not all flashlights are the same. Based on your application, a specific flashlight will might meet your needs better than another for brightness, diffusion, weight/size, weather/temperature, battery type(size/duration), etc...

One example, I will use a different light for running than I do for biking. And different light if I need a spot light.

I have a broken Fenix (dropped it :( ) and now a small Nitecore (or it might be a Fenix again, I forget)... I hate that it uses CR123 batteries, those things cost 9$ each around here and it takes 2. I do love how bright it is though, that thing'll blind people if you point it in their eyes.

come on really...? is it any different from any other craxy interest or hobby? Cars, knives, computers, clothes, etc etc

there's always a group of people interested in everything/anything

+1

I've used a Fenix LD10 for over a year, love it. Fits right in my pocket and very handy. I purchased a Fenix E01 for my wife and my 3 year old for christmas (he loves flash lights and tools).

i bought a fenix before i bought my first e2L.

the fenix just had way too many levels and modes. i wanted simplicity and the e2l gave that to me. when i received it, the build quality was noticeably better. at the time, it had the exact type of lumen output i wanted and runtime, nobody else really had it.

most flashlight makers give you a super-duper bright level for like 1-2 hours like say 100+ lumen, and then a superlow level. the surefire gave me 6+ of pretty darn high light, plus 100 of low light.

i looked long and hard to find those levels and considered any brand i could find at places like batteryjunction, etc.. nothing.

i am looking forward to checking out my maratac that is arriving early next week.

I have a few Surefire lights, but my favorite flashlight is now the Fenix L2T. Wonderful light, two modes, sturdy as a Surefire, better water resistance, runs on two AA batteries, and costs 1/4 the price. :)
