"flashing" web pages on Viewsonic VP930b and Radeon X800 GTO2

Hey all,

I'm having a little trouble diagnosing a problem I've been having in some web pages.

When I view pages on my ViewSonic VP930b, sometimes the screen goes flashes on and off and when it's on, there's a bunch of black lines all thru the image. It does this until I close the browser window.

However, if I view the same page on my CRT (I'm in a dual monitor set up), the page is just fine.

I have the VP930b hanging off of the DVI port (not using an analog converter) and a Dell Trinitron CRT hanging off of the analog port of a Sapphire Radeon X800 GTO2.

I'm not sure if the LCD or the video card is to blame.

It's been like this thru a couple different ATI driver revisions.

I only experience the problem when web surfing. It doesn't matter if the page is viewed in Mozilla or IE ... same problem. Gaming is fine on the LCD.

Does anyone have any ideas?

System specs:
AMD X2 3800+ at 2500
Asus A8N-SLI Premium
2GB Mushkin PC4000 memory
Sapphire Radeon X800 GTO2, hacked bios to X800 XT

Thanks,

Super

I have never tried to flash a video card bios, so I know little about it. However, could this be the root of this issue?

I certainly hope not. The whole purpose of buying that card was to hack the bios, as it was advertised widely on the web to do. It was a special edition card.

Yea, but are all the hackers using a dual CRT/LCD monitor setup like you?

I'd think, though, if it were that much of an issue, it'd manifest itself in other ways, too ... not just on random websites., It didn't do this when I first got he card.

I had a wierd flickering issue with certain patterns with one of my Viewsonic LCDs if the refresh rate was at 60Hz, and 70Hz fixed it. This happened with my old 9800pro, but it doesn't happen with my 7800GT.

Comparing one port on the card to another port is not a good way to test if the card's at fault.
Connect your CRT to the DVI port using an adaptor and see if you get the same behaviour. If so, flash your card back to what it should be.

That fixed it. Thanks!

It seemed that my LCD can support 1280x1024 @ 75Hz (at least that's what I remember reading in the manual). Dropping it down to 70Hz solved the problem.

OT: I wish that line were true ... recent experience showed me that an insurance company can try to find a way not to pay for an rear end accident. My wife was hit, the other person lied, and now my insurance company has to fight it with hers because they won't pay.
