Flashing the BIOS for ChainTech VNF3-250. NEEDS help.

Hi all,
I just flashed the Beta BIOS for the Chaintech VNF3-250 and now my IDE RAID card won't recognize one of the drives on the array. Also my memory can only run maximum at DDR333. Before flashing, everything was fine but I cannot overclock that high. Now after flashing, the RAID is gone, and the memory is lower.
My system specs:
Athlon64 3200+
ChainTech VNF3-250
1Gig HyperX 2X512MB PC4000
Silicon Image IDE RAID card with two Hitachi 200GB drives.
SoundBlaster Audigy 2
TV Tuner

Do I need to reset the BIOS in the system after flashing? Anyone else is having the problems that I do?
Thanks.

I don't know about RAID but many people including myself had problems with memory being DDR333 (5:6 to fsb) after applying 0507 beta bios.
It happens if you have 2 double sided memory sticks for some memories (not all of them).
So you may try removing one and you will see that it goes back to DDR400 (1:1).
Or try latest bios for ZNF3-250 (that is another chaintec board - NOT same as VNF3) that was mentioned ot this board (I didn't try it).
Or back to previous bios and wait for the new one.

What did you get? 😛
You passed your problem to me... eh?
Did you happen to keep original bios that came with MOBO? I know you flashed it to dl one from chaintech.
So far, I got up to 223FSB 100% stable based on how I install stuff... (man do I miss intel's easiness on these). Not bad on air... still waiting for A64 clip for Exos.
Think I will give it a shot with 7/29 bios (!!) which is available on Korean site.
Any info you found while working on this will be appreciated.

I see all of these people running the same setup at FSB 250. I think it might be either RAM or PSU. The cooler could be that too.

So what is everyone's opinion of the Chaintech VNF3-250 at this point?

I'm getting one tommorow and want to know what to expect...🙂

Reserving it for Exos to arrive atm. Few quarks are kinked out but the lack of multiplier adjustment do hurt. Chipset is decent for passive but I would have expected something slightly larger... which they can't do with the AGP PCI slots... It is okay so far but really need bios revision to fix things. And I have feeling chaintech aren't putting too much time on it... (probably heading to 939 solution now) BTW more cooling will defintely help. I get stable result with 230 FSB now for additional noise. I am expecting somewhere around 235-240 FSB once Exos clip arrives.

I get 265 stable and have had no problems with it at all, and at 265 the chipset doesnt even heat up that bad. I dont really see a need for multipliers either because increasing the htt to insane levels doesnt really help with the performance much.

What is the point of the Beta Bios? I have my 2800+ @ 3200+ on air with the stock everything. Whats the deal why would you want to cause problems not to mention void warranty etc.. with beta?

I believe I can shed some light on this.

Basically in the bios, set your ram speed to auto, that fixed it for me.

Secondly, regarding your poor overclocks....

I am in the same position, I can barely get to 210FSB before prime95 brings up errors immediately and games crash after about an hour. I noticed that if I set the Vdimm to 2.7 or 2.8, it defaults back to 2.5v. Digidoc shows this also, aswell as the bios.

I have the same ram as you most likely, Hynix BT-D43 chips, commonly used in XMS4400/HyperX4000 and OCZ modules.

Basically I put it down to the board not liking the Hynix ram. I know one other person who has the same problems with the same ram.

is there anyway to check the bios? i think it reads 8/3/04, but that sounds wrong...it's going too fast at post. lol.

Multiplier's added, and temperature is fixed. Although it says my 3400 @ stock is running 52C load with a 948U + 92mm fan on it. Strange, as on my KV8-Pro / K8V Deluxe it wouldnt go over 45 with a thermaltake silent boost on it.

hi can you give me a link to download the beta bios because i try to search it on the korean website but i don't see it :/
thx
