Exactly. Also typing in all caps is not going to get you anywhere.

That banner is PISSING ME OFF. Enough to want me to subscribe for the few times a day I come here. I ONLY hang out in the FSFT Forum and I ONLY came to this one in order to post about this DAMN banner.

Looks Like Everyone is a winner. WooHoo!

Definitely a good reason to subscribe. Full-text search is extremely valuable in finding things, not to mention the 1000 PM limit. No banners is just icing on the cake.

Modify your host file to add the following line

127.0.0.1 network.realmedia.com

This may stop ads from the offending domain.

At least on Anadtech.

Maybe it's a ploy by the management to drive up the number of paying subscribers?!?

Either way, banner ads like that one and the ones from X10 are enough to send some people into epileptic seizures. Nothing like having a web site make you bite your tounge off! :|

The promise of 'blazing speed' has not been an incentive for me to subscribe, as I usually connect at a blazing 26-44Kbps anyway :p

That flashing banner is a pretty good incentive though, I think it's actually causing me to be nauseated, not a good thing! But that as a reason doesn't seem quite right, so I'll wait until I'm feeling better to decide :)

Anand has been known in the past to fire up an email to the ad company that provides annoying banners when one happens to slip onto AT....I'm sure it'll be gone soon

RagingBITCH = subscriber, don't have that problem :D

Thanks for the heads up. Anand has instructed the ad company not to insert strobing ads. Occasionally a few slip into the rotation. I have notified him about this.

You could do the same trick on the Mushkin box, but from the look of the URL, you'd have no graphics if you actually went to the Mushkin site either.
But the Mushkin box isn't obnoxious, and I occasionally go to their site, so I'll leave it be :)

I...love you guys....

Actually, my complaint isn't the strobing. It's the fact that the ad is a flat-out lie. They claim "you are a winner" but if you actually click it, it asks for an e-mail address. Look at the terms and conditions and they say flat-out--this is not a contest or giveaway. When you put in your e-mail address you're simply signing up for spam. You have "won" junk mail.
Try to close the window and you will be deluged with enough pop-ups to put porn sites to shame.

Well, I gotta say, my problem is definitely with the strobing! It totally makes my brain hurt.... :)

I have to wonder if epileptics would have any trouble with this.

Yep, some sure do. This is a health risk. Remember when many people had a bad reaction to a televised ad or cartoon? It should be banned. Hope the advertizer pays attention to the mods request before somebody has a reaction here.

<-- *Holding hand in front of face as if blocking sun*

Is forums quite a bit faster for subscribers? It loads decently fast on my cable modem, downright slow at work. (click link, go get coffee, come back, read) Guess I shouldn't be ananding at work ;)
