flashing gpu bios

I want to attempt to softmod my 9600 GSO to an 8800 GTS, but I'm encountering a few big obstacles. First, the manufacturer does not make a bios flash utility for this video card. Second, it seems like other generic flash utilities, such as nvflash, require a floppy drive which I got rid of eons ago.

Are there any flash utilities out there that do NOT require a floppy drive and/or boot into dos mod?

Doesn't that only work with the Galaxy 9600GSO Overclocked edition?

How may RAM chips do you see on the card? Can you take a pic and show us the card?
Also, make and model number would be helpful.

It is the ASUS EN9600GSO/DI/512MD3/V2 GeForce 9600 GSO 512MB, here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...2E16814121320R.

It has 8 ram chips on the back - it's 512 mb card to begin with. And it's also the 96 shader version.

I can't find the link but I think the ASUS has 2 ram chips missing. Get out the soldering gun and have some fun?

That particular card is not the version I have. Mine has 512 megs of active ram on the card. Here is the newegg picture of the back of the card - 8 chips and they're all active as is without a bios mod.

You can turn a USB flash drive into a bootable device (you have to use some Win98 files or something). Worked for me when I flashed my 5770.

That's perfect! I didn't see a windows based version of nvflash when I searched. Thank you.

Now here's the kicker question - if the flash is unsuccessful, will it be possible to flash back to the card's intended bios (assuming I have it on hand?)

Supposedly, there is a way using another card for display, (pci?, only ATI?, I don't have experience with it) but I've heard of people also trashing that card they were using for the display, it's not easy.

I've got a gtx 260 as my main card, the 9600 is a dedicated physx. I'm in the mood, so I'm going to give it a shot. I'll let you know how it turns out.

Wow I just noticed. The two PNY 9600gso 768mb Vertos I took out of my nephew's computer are 8 chip. I don't have much to lose.
