flashing bios... w/c one first

by the way since my system is new.(no os yet installed).. should i flash bios b4 installing os? i have anohter pc.. and i can dl the flash files and store them on a floppy.. wat do u think?? ill be using win xp .. i have an extra bootable hd..
what steps should i do first? my board is a p4s533... asus ..can the flash files be on the hd???

It's no problem flashing your BIOS before your install you OS, I generall like do that, example: I'll reformat and before installing the OS I'll update my BIOS.

Also Motherboard manufacturers generally advise against having the flash files on the HDD, but rather on a floppy disc.

So I say you should go and download the new BIOS, put it on a floppy, then flash your PC and then install the new OS.

I disagree. Just install XP and be on your way. There is no reason to flash your BIOS unless you're having trouble, or unless it specifically indicates on the manufacturer's website that a certain update will enhance performance or add features. It's a risky process best avoided if unnecessary, which in your case I believe is completely so.
