Flashing BIOS in Win2K

Hey guys.

I'm trying to flash my BIOS with Win2K, but I don't know how to get to MS-DOS mode. When I boot up the computer with the Win2K CD, it goes into that blue setup screen instead of the DOS mode.

I've searched for a similar thread but only found answers to flashing BIOS in Win 98, ME, and XP. Under Win2K, there's no format A: as MS-DOS bootdisk. When I go to create Bootdisk in Win2K CD, it says I'll need 4 floppy disks, which will take me to the same blue setup screen.

I remember there was one way to do this. Like download one small file in A: then putting the new BIOS files in the same A: then booting up the computer with it. Does anyone know how to do that?

Thanks in advance!

I've already tried with Win98SE bootdisk and it didn't work. :(

Anyone else? I used to know how to do it, but I completely forgot.

What motherboard? Some have built-in flash utilities, so you don't need a boot disk, just a floppy containing the BIOS file.

You put the flash prog and the bios prog on it.

You then boot up from it and when at the dos prompt you type the "flash prog" "bios file (full name)".

It works. I have done it before moving on to XP.

PS: you can also flash off the hdd too.

the only way to do it for sure is make a 98 boot disk.
i went to a 98 computer at work and typed "format a: /s" and then copied the BIOS flash program and BIOS file to the floppy.. booted to the floppy, ran the program.. typed in the BIOS name, saved the old BIOS onto the disk.. all easy as pie... done!

If you set the BIOS to boot from floppy, it doesn't care what the heck may be on the hard drive. You could flash from floppy with no hard drive at all. Nice plan Yield :D

I also took a guess that your board is a Gigabyte 7VRXP, based on your sig (cool pics, BTW! :D). Their manual shows how you can flash the BIOS from Windows, in Appendix H. If you need the manual, you can download it from here.

Hmmm... that does sound right. Maybe I should try again.

Yes I do have GA-7VRXP and I knew about the flashing BIOS in windows, but I didn't want to install those softwares. I don't like installing "junk" programs you know? Also, like I said before, I've flashed my BIOS a while back by downloading a boot disk file on a floppy disk. So I just wanted to do it the easy way, but ah well.. :)

Thanks so much for your help!
