Flashing banner ad

I think this falls under the same conditions as the scientology ads we saw a while back. They can't get rid of just one banner, its in their linkshare rotation (or whatever).

I downloaded Webwasher on someone's reccomendation the other day. Blocks all banners and such. Freeware program for home use.

It was making me mildly ill as well...the flashing screws with my eyes and makes me feel carsick. Ugh. Webwasher stopped it though 🙂

Wow... I came over here to start a thread about this... glad I'm not the only one that hates that flashing banner! :|

Good thing it isn't primary red and primary blue. The epileptics would be seizing left and right. Get rid of it anyway.

<< JUST HIT ESC AND IT WILL STOP FLASHING >>

But that means I won't win! 😉

In all seriousness, it is annoying, but that is the intent <sigh>. That does suck that it makes some people sick. 🙁

I can't stand it and will contribute $10-15 PayPal to have it removed and, to help offset the the loss of revenue to Anandtech for this ad.

Hey great. I guess if it every once in a while, it wouldn't be a big deal. I just seem to see it every other refresh.

Add me to the list of people who hate this ad. I have seen stuff like this at other sites, I complained to Delphi when they had it a long time ago and they pulled it.

I guess it comes as no surprise that the company that has the obnoxious banner always appears to be some lowlife sleazy company. Oh, how I wish their banner were not so annoying because I would sure love to take advantage of that free vacation I won which I am sure is the best deal ever seen on these forums (not).

I havent't had time to read the entire thread so forgive me if it has already been mentioned ,but another good reason to pull this add is the strobing effect.
Many people sensitive to flashing lights could be effected by this add & it could potentially trigger a fit

I myself am slightly sensitive to strobes & flashing lights ,at a specific speed it can make me pass out for a few seconds (eyes shutting is enough to stop it,fortunatley I've never had an epylectic fit). This add whilst it isn't making me blank out ,it is giving me an odd sensation.
Pull the horrible thing!

Anand
Thanks for that 🙂

Well for now "127.0.0.1 mediaserv.247media.com" is the solution. Really time to consider an ad blocker.

Just add this to your hosts file:

127.0.0.1 connect.247media.ads.link4ads.com

I haven't seen the stupid banner since I put the entry in.

Stupid question: where does the "hosts" file reside on Win2K? I looked for it a couple of weeks ago and was not able to find it.
