Flashing a 7800gt -> Gtx?

Hi, I was just wondering if it would be possible to use the bios of a 7800gtx on a 7800gt and make the regular adjustments as such? I have heard that the cards ARE physically different from eachother, however, As I would like to know if it is possible or if anyone tried it.

should be easy to get gtx clock speeds. shaders is a whole different thing as they are hard locked on die and not bios soft locked.

like coomar said, nvidia learned from 6800 series 🙂

The GT is most likily a failed GTX (Couldn't run at GTX spec)

yeah, likely bad pipes specifically

look at the alternative- throwing out every chip that doesn't yield 100% of 24 functional pipes? that would make the GTX MUCH MUCH more expensive

In addition to everyone elses statements, it is for yields. Why make a completely seperate chip and card, when you can make one universal PCB, and CHip, and merely disable some of the features on it. Much cheaper.

so you can sell a product to those who don't want to pay the price of the GTX.
 
Where theres a will theres a way, if nvidia disabled these pipes physically on the card then there must be a way to re-enable them again.. Does anyone know the method they used to disabled the pipes such as cutting traces or did they actually hardcode something into a rom chip?

They hardcoded it most likely - the same reason why I cant unlock a x800 into a x800xl. There's 3 ways of locking pipes - through the bios software, through laser cuts, and hardcoding the chip. The first 2 methods can be unlocked, but not the 3rd one.

But look on the bright side - if you OC the gt far enough it's performance will be close to a gtx.
 
lol if you want GTX performance just buy one instead of trying to do the impossible. you can probably water cool the card if you really want to OC it and bring it close to GTX speeds.
