alright dudes and dudettes.. i've been trying to find it on the web, but the bios i apparently need isn't where it should be (bad link). also, i've been watchign the forums but haven't seen a thread or found one by searching, so here is:

can someone give me step-by-step instructions for flashing my fic 9700np so i can o/c it?
i understand the risks and the utilites and all that junk. i just need a flash utility and a bios from somewhere i think

if i just flash it with a correct bios i should be able to o/c then, yes? and anyone have any problems flashing any particular brand, especially fic? and what happens if the bios i flash ain't so good (corrupt)? is my card dead? thanks a bunch all. p.s. if you point my to rage3d frums, it's not gonna help cause that's where the dead link is for the generic bios

thanks :)

Some of us that actually paid the premium price for the pro version have gotten together and decided that it would be unfair to tell you how to upgrade an NP to a pro.

j/k (of course). I think you can only do it with certain OEM cards, if at all. I'm probably showing my lack of knowledge.

well, even if i could get a utilit ot backup/load the bios i would be happy. i found on a german webstie the wo values i need to change (1 and actual value and 1 a checksum apparently)

i'm comfortable with hex editing, but i need someone to get my bios off and laod it back on

help anyone?

edit: what i found was on a german site but said to modify the value at offset 74 from 91 to 90, but not all the bytes past 74 match
additionally, the checksum value at the end of the file obviously doesn't match because the bytes after 74 don't match. so i just decremented it by 1 (from F8 to F7)

what happens if i flash and it's messed up? the only cards i have are AGP (so i can't stick an old card in and flash the bios to the old version). i'm anxious but still cautious

not sure what happened, but i got that error message. i then tried to save it to a text file (atiflash -f -p 0 oldbios.bin > file.txt)

i went to look in there to past the contents (hoping it would help) and saw this instead:

ATI Flash Utility V1.3
Serial ROM
BIOS DeviceID = 0x4E44
ASIC DeviceID = 0x4E44
Flash type = ST M25P05
65536 of 65536 bytes verified.

WHOA! verified?!? I took this as a good thing, ripped my pci card out and viola! Here I am with a supposedly working 9700 again.

Now the question is, do I try and put the hacked BIOS back in there or should I play my cards safe and consider myself lucky?

Keep trying. What can it hurt?
